Anyone's DC's pin prick test for lead...

...come back positive? My doctor called and said it's easy for those tests to be tainted so I have to take my son to a lab to get his bloodwork done for lead. I feel so scared but she said that even though the prick test came back positive, there's a big chance the lab test will be okay....

We didn't have a pin prick test, DS had full bloodwork at one year and lead was included. It was negative.

Hopefully the bloodtest is more accurate and everything is ok. Chat Icon

We weren't offered a pin prick, just a blood test. Which we haven't gotten done yet.

I wouldn't worry to much about it until you get the bloodwork done.

I am a nurse and used to do the pin pricks (before I had DD) to the little ones. I've seen them come back postive and the second one come back negative. DC could have touch something that altered the test.
I hope everything comes out okay.Chat Icon

Was it common for it to come back positive and then negative? Sorry, just overly worried.

Thanks girls for writing. (TMI--doesn't help that I'm pms-ing!!)

Its very common for the pin prick to be positive and then for the blood draw to be negative. Its as simple as lead dust being on his hand from the floor. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

His level was so high though. I am so so worried. Is it normal to be a high level from that?
