anyone's level II show enlarged kidneys on a boy?
so i'm not one to worry, but just thought i'd ask.
dr's office just called and mentioned that the sonogram revealed enlarged kidneys on the and that a follow up sonogram would have to be done at 32 weeks.
they said it's more common in males, it's probably because my bladder was so full that his kidneys seemed enlarged and that 99% of the time it's nothing and resolves itself as the pregnancy progresses, but you know, you still wonder.
has anyone had this happen? would like to hear any experiences. thanks!!

Re: anyone's level II show enlarged kidneys on a boy?
They detected dilated kidneys on my DS at my Level II as well. They monitored them closely and as the weeks went on, they became more and more enlarged. I believe at one point they were both over the safe zone. I had to go in for non-stress tests and monitoring weekly from week 32-41. They did a sonogram on him right after I delivered and his kidneys were PERFECT. Not enlarged or dilated at all... absolutely normal. My ped told me that he has seen so many babies whose kidneys were enlarged based on sonos and after birth they are absolutely perfect.

Re: anyone's level II show enlarged kidneys on a boy?
DS #1 had dilated/enlarged kidneys when I had my Level II for him (I believe they called it hydronephrosis). I had to go for a follow-up sono w/a specialist a few days later he told me that it's very common w/little boys and that based on my son's #s it looked like everything would resolve itself before he was born & if it didn't, I believe that a simple procedure would be performed after he was born to correct it. Luckily we found out at one of my growth sonos that the problem had completely resolved itself before birth. I remember how scary it seemed at the time, though, & it's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much...after googling it to death, I found that it really is common & it's very treatable even if it doesn't resolve itself

This happened with my son at the 32 weeks sono. Went back 2 weeks later and they were fine. We were team green and after hearing this we pretty much knew we were having a boy- very common in boys.
