Anyone's toddler become suddenly afraid of being on their changing table?
DS is almost 2 1/2 and over the last few days he has become petrified of being up on his changing table. He seems terrified of falling. He hasn't liked being changed in general for awhile now (we are starting to introduce potty which helps with that) but this is different. Today he was thrilled when I suggested changing him on the floor and he didn't give me a hard time at all. So I feel like this is a sudden fear of heights, not just that he doesn't want to be changed. I am worried that something may have happened at daycare where he fell or something and I will ask on Monday. I did a search online and found a couple people mention something similar with their toddlers but there wasn't a lot of explanation so I thought I'd ask on here. Anyone experience this?

With my squirmy kids, I stopped using a changing table at 6 months for fear of them falling (my own fear). I use a pack n play pad on the floor.

Thank you for your reply. But to clarify I'm more concerned about his sudden fear of heights. I don't mind changing him elsewhere.

Yes! I have no idea why, but my youngest is the same way. We change her on the floor. She gets changed on the table at school, but at home refuses to go on it.
When she's off for her break, we are going to start potty training hard core.

DS is also terrified of falling from his changing table. Same scenario as yours. Usually he lets me change him if he's lying down, but when i stand him up to pull up the diapers or pants he freaks out and hangs on to me until we're done. i'm hoping it's just a phase.

Re: Anyone's toddler become suddenly afraid of being on their changing table?
Oooh, I'm glad to hear we aren't the only ones experiencing this. I read something online (not sure about the source) that explained that toddlers have a clearer sense of depth perception at this age and may be fearful of heights because they finally realize the possible repercussions of falling at that height. I found little else on the subject but if others are experiencing it then I will go with that theory and just push the potty training now!
