Anything good cookin' today?

Since I'm home with the snow day, I decided to make a big batch of split pea with ham soup in my crockpot.

I'm bummed because I don't have much to bake in my pantry but came across a pumpkin bread mix. I have a lone can of vanilla icing I might spread on it.

I'm working today, but I'm making grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for dinner. Not like I'm going to be slaving over the stove all day, but it's nice to have a plan for something like that after a day out in this nonsense!

Do you have anything you could stir into the pumpkin bread mix to make it more interesting? Raisins, dried cranberries, nuts?

I am the opposite! I have a lot of baking supplies... May make oatmeal cookies or something with DS later. But I am short on food.. Last week I didn't really food shop because I wanted to use up pantry and freezer items, so I meal planned around that. I planned to shop earlier this week, but had a horrible stomach virus on Tuesday and still couldn't face it yesterday, lol. So we will be eating something basic later... Pasta or breakfast for dinner, something like that.

Happy cooking!

I made Vanilla Cupcakes with Maple Syrup-Cream Cheese frosting.
But tonight for dinner will be an odd assortment of leftovers. I've been making a lot of new recipes and all of the side dishes have been too big. So I have leftover potato salad, 3 bean salad (sounds like summer in this blizzard!), also some sausage, bean and broccoli rabe soup.
I was thinking of trying to clean out my pantry but I never get around to it... it's hard figuring out what to make with all of the leftover odds and ends. It was fun when I had time to do so, but with DD I just want quick and easy nowadays.

I had rotisserie chicken in the fridge so I'm making a big pot of chicken noodle soup with it. Threw in the bones, carrots, celery, onions, bay leaves, thyme, salt and pepper. I'll add egg noodles later. Can't wait! Made chicken salad with some of the meat and going to make Valentine's Day cookies with the kids later.

Have a big piece of beef that I'm going to slow roast in the oven very soon for dinner.

And thinking of making a batch of cookies to give to our neighbor for using his snow blower on our side walker!

Re: Anything good cookin' today?

I made corn muffins, brownies with heart candies on top. Simple lunch turkey franks, smiley face french fries and lipton soup. We wanted Chinese food tonight but not sure if DH wants to go out and get it since he has been out all day doing snow removal. I think I'll make chicken and dumplings in the crockpot instead and sautéed broccoli rabe Chat Icon

Re: Anything good cookin' today?

I am making from scratch a butter yellow cake with home made chocolate frosting, and home made dark chocolate ganache filling. I got those ghiridelli chocolate heart squares and some premade sugar flowers for the kids to decorate it.

So far I have made the gananche, and the frosting. The cakes are in the oven now. Once they are cooked and cooled I will whip the frosting and let the kids go to town decorating.

This morning I shoveled a foot of snow. Once the cakes are out of the oven and cooling I will go back outside and finish shoveling the cars and digging them out of the snow.

I have plans to make chocolate fondue tomorrow for dessert. I didn't find much at the supermarket for dipping other than fruit, so I'm thinking about making cheesecake swirled brownies today. I'm just so over these snowstorms that staying in and baking has lost its appeal.

Anything good cookin' today?

I worked from home today, so I could not cook all day.
I made a quick veggie and pasta soup for lunch, and will make pork chops with sauerkraut and spaetzle for dinner.

Have no idea what to make for tomorrow. Just not into cooking lately.
