Anyway to encourage standing without holding on?
DS is 11 1/2 months old and has been pulling himself up on everything for a long time. He will walk along the couch, the crib, the pnp, anything he can stand against.
How can I encorage him to stand and/or walk without holding anything? TIA!!!!!!

put something in his hands so he is conscentrating on what it in his hands instead of standing and he also wont be able to hold on to anything cause his hands will be full

I used to hold something that DC wanted a few inches out of their reach. They were so focused on getting what they wanted that they "forgot" that they were walking...
Just like in the cartoons, though, once they looked down and realized that they were standing and walking, they immediately fell...

Re: Anyway to encourage standing without holding on?
That's what we do:
When he is hanging on to furniture, get close to him and call him. Put your hands forward but just far enough that he has to let go. Just a few inches. Not too far so he get discouraged by the task.
We also seat on the floor and he hangs on to us (shoulders usually). We slowly start to hold his waist so he let's go of the arms. Slowly we remove our hands from him. He can stand for 10-30 seconds max. It works great when he watches his shows. He is too focused to realize we let go.
