Applying for STAR
i plan on going to town hall today to apply but wanted to know what paperwork is needed. i did receive an application in the mail so i was just going to fill it out and drop it off. i have the 2006 tax bill and along w/ a mortgage stub and utility bills. is this enough info or do i need to bring the title as well.

All I needed was the form and I brought the deed and they made a copy...

all we needed was copy of deed, copy of drivers license and form w/ signatures.
I think the deadline is March 1...

yeah...a household bill (related to the house) to prove mailing address and the form itself.

You need the form, and your license with the your new addy, if not then bring a utility bill of some sort.. Make copies!!! I went on Tuesday and took care of that !

The title company gets the original deed and transfer documents at closing so that they can record it. But a copy of it is probably made for you and your atty by the closer. The original will be forwarded to you once it has been recorded. (Once it has been recorded, a copy of the recorded copy is equal to the original.)

If this is Huntington, I didn't have to reapply for the basic STAR when we bought the house.

i didn't have the chance to go yesterday. i am going to go on monday. i plan to bring the application, deed, tax bill, mortgage stub and a utility bill. i want to make sure that i am 100% prepared.

i just put mine in the mail for town of brookhaven... all the form said to put with it was the form itself and nothing else... they said if they need more info they will contact us...

When I called the town of Smithtown, they said bring the form and the deed, and if you are a new homeowner they wanted you to come down personally instead of mailing it.
I thought they were going to give me some sort of welcome to the neighborhood package, but no, we were in there for about 2 minutes, she took the form, photocopied the deed, and that was it.

We just did ours too and we needed the form filled out, a copy of each of our lisences, and a copy of a utility bill. I think you needed alot more if it was your 1st year in the new house.
