APPLYING FOR THAT JOB!
OK, so I have yet to send my resume to one school (denial ? )
I keep hearing people that have sent it to the whole state of new york and havent heard back from one school, so I think why bother
But Im also enjoying being home with my boys and just taking it easy for these first few years... but then I also dont want to wait too long and lose the rhythm of the school thing and forget all that Ive learned (and dont we have a certain # of years to get a Perm cert. from the day we graduated?)
So now my question is this. As youve seen in my last post, with so much competition for just a plain old ELem Ed position, I feel like I have to expand my horizons and see what else I might be able to teach/apply for.
As far as qualifications, Im only certif in ELem Ed, with Specialization in Langage arts.(doesnt mean anything when it comes down to legal issues ) It's not an extra certification. I think a few more classes would get me a Reading certif. though. and I know that last year my name came up at a meeting at a school I sub at, and someone was told "We will offer the leave replacement position to Anna ___ first" It was for reading and Im not certif in that, but I would LOOVE a Reading teacher job (and I was also due to have a baby so it wouldnt have worked out anyway ) but I was flattered that my name came up when a girl who subs MUCH more than me asked point blank if the position was still available.
Anywho. Im just confused as to whether I should get additional credits to make myself certif in either Special Ed or reading. (keep in mind Im fluent in ITalian and Spanish...and can chat in Greek, ARmenian and Polish )
Are there jobs that are in such demand that the schools would hire me and then pay for my extra credits? (maybe ESL teacher, languages, etc). I just cant decide which to get certif in and would hate to get one certif and then see a job in another...
and is it terrible for me to send my resume to the schools (hard copy) in addition to the computer application. (and be buried in with the rest )
Just last week, I was told that Brentwood is seeking spanish speaking teachers... but would I have a hard time changing areas if I taught ESL or a language for a couple of years?
With all these options around, Im sure torn on which road to follow now...
Sorry for all the questions.. Im trying to go about this most effectively
thanks for any advice.

Don't quote me on this - but I think you can get a ESL cert with just some additional credits (not a degree) somewhere about 9-15 credits - depending on your language knowledge/credits.

Yes you can! Hofstra is the only school that does it. I have looked into about 10 other schools and they are the only ones. I am going to go back for my ESL cert as soon I am located back in NY.
