Applying in NYC?
I am scared to death of the process. I want to apply to be an NYC teacher but have no idea where to start, if I'm too late, what the best way to do it is, etc. Any advice for me? How should I go about this? I would appreciate anything!

Re: Applying in NYC?
I would make an appointment and meet with someone at Court Street (NYC schools headquarters in downtown Brooklyn). They will go through your transcripts and teaching certifcates and issue you a city-wide commitment letter, which essentially means that you are hired. Don't let them convince you to a school commitment letter (which is a specific school). Or they may give you a borough specific letter which means you can only take a job in that borough, that may be good if commuting is an issue... i.e. you probably don't want staten island. my advice, get the city commitment letter.
Then take that letter and go to schools that you're interested in yourself. That's what I did. Walk in with your resume. Introduce yourself, ask if they're hiring, etc. Principals do the hiring in NYC, so it's fine to walk in and see what the story is.
There is also an on-line site where you can upload your resume and see vacancies posted.
I am no longer a city teacher, so i am sure the ladies on here have more current advice, but this is what worked for me a few years ago.
GOOD LUCK!
Headquarters can place you, but it's probably not anywhere you want to be, so try going to schools on your own first and see where that leads you.

Queens would be preferable because I live in Suffolk County, but I'm flexible.
