Appropiate Corp Behavior
I was told that I should not participate in any office celebrations i.e. birthday , showers etc. Yes my title is manager but I do not manage one single person.
I am just a little mad because I sit and watch inappropriate behavior all the time, i.e. going out to strip clubs, drinking to much, inappropriate comments (I am usually the only woman at meetings where these comments are made) but me celebrating a person's birthday is not ok? I don't understand.

Re: Appropiate Corp Behavior
That seems a bit extreme to me, I worked for a Fortune 500 company and the departmental VP and President always attended a birthday (cake in the conference room) if their schedule permitted.

Re: Appropiate Corp Behavior
I was told , they don't want everyone away from their desks at once to have cake, and I should not be involved because I am a manager.
Its usually a much better atmospehere then this.
The girl's who's cake it is threw me one for my wedding I was just repaying a debt.

Re: Appropiate Corp Behavior
That is so strange - I would think that if you are professional then it is a nice gesture if you participate. It is great for employees to see that their managers are "human"....but, I don't know your company culture and at times this does happen.
