are anderson windows worth it?

we got three quotes today. one off the wall from pella..over 5000.00 (for wood) the other was 2500 from unified (for vinyl) and 3800 for anderson (for wood). i liked the anderson guy the best but i'm not sure i want to spend this much. i'm getting two crank windows with grills and one long window that doesn't open above them. do these prices sound outrageous?? i have no idea. thanks

Re: are anderson windows worth it?

A number of factors could effect the price. What size windows? Are you replacing old single-pane windows or adding windows where there were none before?

If you are replacing old leaky (air) windows with new ones then the labor cost should be less than if you are adding windows to a wall that never had windows.

Either way getting new windows is an investment in your house and you should purchase quality hardware (either vinyl or wood). The previous owners of our house purchased low quality vinyl winows about 10years ago and they are all falling apart!Chat Icon

we're replacing one standard up down window with 2 crank windows and a stationary window on top of that. so it will be a lot of labor i'm sure. i'm just wondering if we should go with the andersons or not. we have mostly andersons but at least 3 of the windows are not so does it matter?

Re: are anderson windows worth it?

how do the energy ratings of the other windows compare to the Andersen?
My DH is a builder & we took a working andersen window that was dated 1929 out of a house in North Bellmore about ten years ago. Andersen does equal quality, its not the best but its worth the price IMO.
Our house has 20 yr old Andersen casement winows, as we renovate we have been changing & adding windows, we are sticking with Andersen.
