Are any of the boys doing Cub Scouts?
My DS got a flyer home about Cub Scouts and I'm on the fence if he would like it or not. Not sure how involved you have to be - I dont mind getting involved but my DH works different hours each week and I have 2 younger kids as well. Plus my DS can get bored or restless so I just wonder if it's for him.
Anyone doing it or can offer some input?

Re: Are any of the boys doing Cub Scouts?
DS started Cub Scouts Kindergarten (Tiger Cubs). It's great!! Requires a lot of inolvement though, there are a lot of things from the handbook you are expected to do at home (like homework). Our Den meetings were once a week and at the younger ages, you are expected to stay at the meeting with them. Some do once every other week and they have a group pack night once a month.
They offer a lot of great events, a lot of service projects and an awesome camp experience at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp. It's a lot of fun and very rewarding.
Sadly we moved away from our Pack in February and have yet to find a new one that will accept DS so we're still working on it and hope to have him in a new one by the Fall. He's not athetic at all so this is a great thing for him.
I would try it and see how you like it! The fee is relatively inexpensive, something like $24 for the year and each pack collects monthly dues (ours were $10).

L as a cub scout I know Andrew will be when he's old enough - Dan is an Eagle Scout and has been waiting forever to get Andrew started

Re: Are any of the boys doing Cub Scouts?
My ds is involved with Cub Scouts and it could be great, but unfortunatley, we got stuck with a lunatic for the den leader this year and the boys suffered because of that, they really didn't get to do much.... however, things will change next year because us parents that want to be involved have taken over..... so if you are willing to help and have a good group it could be a great experience, I def. recommend trying it... it's very cute to see the boys and how excited they get when they earn beads and belt loops and such.

DS will definitely be joining. I was a Cub Scout, and a BoyScout. I got my Eagle Scout at 13 (one of the youngest ones in the country), and my brother got his when he was 14 (also very young).
My ped, and now my DC's ped was my Scoutmaster. I learned soooo much from that organization. Leadership, working as a team, public speaking, playing with fire (did I say that out loud?..... ), etc.
The ScoutMaster in my neighborhood is a coworker of mine, so when DS gets into Boy Scouts, I'll again have really close contact with the Scoutmaster.

Re: Are any of the boys doing Cub Scouts?
My stepson is a tiger cub and I HATE it!!! My DH was gone with him yesterday from 3-8:30 and it seems like they do something at least every other weekend. Last time he was gone for 8 hours and I was here with a newborn. Saturday is his only day off and I need help around here. There is way too much of a commitment for such a young child. It gets expensive too. Since he is only in 1st grade we have to drive him to everything, there is no carpooling until next year. I wish we waited until he was a little older to start him.

I don't think an event every other weekend is the norm. Most packs do a once a month outing. I know in our pack, events weren't mandatory, but they were certainly a lot of fun for the kids.
Maybe you can get a mother's helper? I can see how it would be frustrating to you being alone with your newborn, but I'm sure your step son and his father enjoy the bonding experience which is equally as important
