Are any of your children....
involved in things outside school like dance, sports, etc? DD goes to school full time. I feel like if I add another thing to her day she will be exhausted. But at the same time I don't want her to be missing out.
What do your kids do if they go to school fulltime and how often? I don't know if it would be too much.
BTW: DD is 3 1/2 and her first year in school

Re: Are any of your children....
DD is only in a half day program and we have her in dance on Friday afternoons. I think she'll be starting gymnastics soon too. I try to put her in at least one afterschool activity because needs the socialization skills. DD just turned 4.
They do have dance classes on Saturday mornings so that might be better than adding to her day during the week.

Re: Are any of your children....
DS has always been in f/t daycare.
At 3 1/2 he goes to daycare p/t and integrated preschool p/t.
I don't put him in anything else during the week. He has very long days as it is (as do I).
We do activities on the weekends.
We do music (with music together). We also have a special needs group based out of my town that does sports for special needs kids. So we do that as well.

Re: Are any of your children....
DS is 3.5 yo. Started a FT program since Sept. Gets 2 hours SEIT/ABA everyday after school.
I can only do 1 activity with him. He goes horseback riding once a week and he loves it.
I cannot squeeze more than that. It's already a lot for him.
If I could I would do swimming. I will soon as it's getting way to cold to ride now. So for the next two months we will go swimming.

Chriistopher is 4 and in a full day program. He goes to swimming lessons and really likes it. In the spring wee would like to.sign him up for either horse back lessons or soccer for special needs kids.

Re: Are any of your children....
DS goes to school and is in a full day program, then goes to daycare afterschool until I pick him up after work. I really wasn't looking to add anything to the schedule, since I thought he already had a lot going on.
We are now looking into doing something on weekends, though, because his teacher thinks, in his case, it might be good for him to have some socialization with other kids outside of the classroom setting, and with typical kids as well. We are looking into soccer and possibly gymnastics. We also thought about swimming, since he loves the water, but I don't see much socialization going on there. Maybe we would do that just for fun.

Honestly we don't do activities for socialization. It's for "fun". They need to be kids too. They do so much more work than other kids their age. They do need down time. We started horseback riding for strengthening of core muscles but actually he loves it so much it turned into down time fun. And I need DS to feel like it's not just about work.

I get this too, but with both of us working full time, we thought it would be hard to commit to scheduled classes and that our fun time could be just more going to the park and the pool in the warmer months, going to the library, doing play dates, etc. DH and I need some down time too But when his teacher suggested doing something outside of class, we started considering it.
ETA - what I meant by "socialization" is having him participate in an activity outside the very structured environment of the classroom and with typical kids. I also thought he had enough socialization, since he's in a full day class, but in his case, I guess the teacher thinks he would benefit from the typical role modeling.

Re: Are any of your children....
My daughter is in full day kindergarten and she does dance on Saturdays and a swim class tailored for special needs children on Wednesdays. She in these programs because she enjoys them and she needs the exercise for her low muscle tone.

Re: Are any of your children....
I agree with Sophie, we don't do activities for socialization either because he gets enough of that at school.
He does get socialization as an added bonus to these activites so that is a perk. I do them as a fun thing for us to do together since DH and I both work f/t.
I used to hate committing to weekends because I felt like it was my only time off. But I only do organized classes before noon so we have the rest of the day to do what we want.
