We never registered for/bought/used a changing table. We always changed Athan on our bed.

i dont think so, if u have a place to change him, and to put everything i think its fine. They make very small changing tables that dont take up space at all. that you can put anywhere, if u really wanted one.

one of the only reasons we got one was because dave is 6'4 and for him to crouch over a pack n play to change the diapers would be a nightmare for him. The changing table will STILL require him to bend a bit - but it's much better than what it would've been without one.

we got ours for FREE from a spectacular woman on the parenting board's thread buy/swap/sell.

Re: are changing table really needed?

it's definitely not necessary. what are you doing about his sleeping place? if you get a pack n play with a bassinet, it has a changing pad on the top as well. most people will change their kids wherever they can. floor, bed, etc it's perfectly fine!

They're not really necessary. We didn't buy one with DS. I keep a pad on top of the dresser in his room and it works out fine. One less piece of furniture to worry about!

I have a one bedroom and didn't get one. Honestly, I can't find small ones. I looked everywhere. If some one knows of a place with them I would love to know where. Ikea's are bigger than most other places, believe it or not!

We did that - I don't know anyone who bought a changing table - don't waste your money. Just put a pad on the dresser.

Re: are changing table really needed?

You do not need one BUT....

I have a studio and i did make a changing area on top of a dresser. I just got one of those changing pads and put it on there, and I AM GLAD i did that.

For one the issue of your back, trust me at first it seems fine, but then when you do it 10 times a day bend over the bed you will hate yourself for not having a higher up area.

Second, no matter what you do, they WILL pee while being changed, or some poop will get somewhere, or they may even poop while being changed.... you do NOT want that on your bed. Even once, you are creating a load of laundry and more cleaning for yourself that could have been avoided.

In a small area, one of the key things to keeping the area tidy and organized is having a place for everything. Having a dedicated baby area is important.

We have a 3 drawer dresser from Ikea, on top of it a changing pad and all of her clothes inside of that dresser along with other baby things, it is small enough to fit in our apartment yet big enough to house all of her things.

So as much as you do not have to have a changing table, changing the baby is one of your main baby cleaning activities and it is important to have a parent friendly comfortable area for that.

Also, please consider that the bassinet changing table is only up to 15 pounds i believe. Most babies will be over that well b4 1 year old.
