Are/did you get a 3d/4d ultrasound? Was it covered by your insurance?
This 3d/4d isn't standard at my doctor's office.
Did you get it done? If so, was it paid by your insurance? If not, how much did it cost?
I would like to get it but don't want to if it is expensive. I feel like everything medical is $$$ though. Maybe I will just have to wait until my 32 week regular growth sono.

I didn't get one, and it was not covered by insurance. If you live on LI, there is a place called Impact that lots of girls on here have gone to. THey list their pricing right on their website. It's a couple hundred dollars at least I think.

When I went for my 22 week ultrasound, they send you to a place near me to do it. They let it slip that the following week they would be getting the 4D equipement I was so mad since this was all covered by insurance.

I would really like to do this but I am not sure if my insurance covers it...I will have to call. My stepsister is also pregnant and I was thinking about getting her a gift certificate so that she could get this done. I thought that would be a really nice gift!

Impact is really not that expensive if you just want the experience and a couple of pics... check out their website. .thats where we are going.. otherwise, ask your sono technician if their machine is capable of 3d sonos and they may switch it and show you what it looks like..

It's safe....
We had one done. And then at my last two sono appointments at the perintologist the sono tech at the end, gave us some 3D shots of the baby. I would think if it wasn't safe, they wouldn't have done that.

Re: Are/did you get a 3d/4d ultrasound? Was it covered by your insurance?
i think this is what they are refering to by the " unsafe factor"
" In 1999, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) released the following statement: The AIUM strongly discourages the non-medical use of ultrasound for psychosocial or entertainment purposes. The use of either two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound to only view the fetus, obtain a picture of the fetus, or determine the fetal gender without a medical indication is inappropriate and contrary to responsible medical practice. (8)
In February 2004, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the following statement: Persons who promote, sell or lease ultrasound equipment for making “keepsake” fetal videos should know that FDA views this as an unapproved use of a medical device. In addition, those who subject individuals to ultrasound exposure using a diagnostic ultrasound device (a prescription device) without a physician’s order may be in violation of state or local laws or regulations regarding use of a prescription medical device.
