I don't think that they are bad. I still give Kevin jarred fruit and veggies sometimes because they are so easy.

I always felt guilty too. Then I got over it. At 65 cents a jar, I'd rather spend the time I would have used making it playing with dcs & just buy the jar.

If you're really concerned, check out the labels - and look out for high sugar, preservatives, food coloring, etc. or just go organic.Chat Icon

Its not bad for them, but its smells totally un-appitizing!!! Making your own is super easy, you can make 3 things and have enough food for like a month!

We never had time to make our own food. We always used Gerber jar food with Caiden and will with Connor too. I never heard of it being bad? Chat Icon

I do not think it is bad for them. I only feed DS jarred food. If it was bad for them I'm sure they wouldn't be selling it and I'm sure my dr wouldn't condone using it! I use gerber b/c that's what he prefered.

I was starting to feel guilty.

That's interesting that your dr said Gerber.

Re: Are jarred foods that bad for DC?

I don't think that there is any difference really in brands..they all have to met certain guide lines. Most people buy what is on sale.
It is NOT bad for your baby. It is a personal decision.
I made my food because for me it was easier. I work as well but mashing up a bananna took no more time than opening up a jar. I just found the homemade food easier, but not everyone does. I never discussed my decision with our ped. I just don't do normally ask them for info on non-illness stuff. Again, it is a personal decision.

Re: Are jarred foods that bad for DC?

I think that the benefit that most people talk about is that in order to make jarred veggies/fruits last longer, they are boiled to very high temps which diminishes the nutrients. I think that's one of the major differences Chat Icon

I just realized that it sounded like my dr prefered gerber, it wasn't my dr it was DS that prefered gerber to others I've tried.

Re: Are jarred foods that bad for DC?

I wasn't even aware they were bad. It was just easier for us to buy the jarred and DS loved them. I'm planning on buying jarred for DD as well.

I don't think they're that bad. I always only bought organic jarred foods and I refused to give her those meat sticks even though the doctor wanted me to.

Re: Are jarred foods that bad for DC?

Personally, I find time to make her food because I want to know exactly what's going into her. I don't want her eating modified starches or high fructose corn syrup or preservatives or ground meats. I want everything to be fresh. I am sure they are not harmful, but they are also not fresh, so to me, I'd rather spend an hour on a Sunday pureeing and freezing her food for the week. JMO.
