Last 3 nail Salons that were all highly recommended as clean and sanitary....I was getting pedicures and they took people who had really bad nail fungus and used the same nail files etc. Foot soaked in the tub. Ughhh.

You need to go to a day spa. Not a Korean nail joint.
It will cost you more but it will be much safer/cleaner

Honestly any of those $5-10 places are not going to be able to match what a real spa does. I would bring all of my own items and polish too. You are going to spend about 30 though.

I'm realizing this! I'm doing my own pedi tonight.

$30 every two months for a professional pedi I can do. I'll have to do my own pedicures in between spa visits. Have you gotten pedis at one of these places before? Which lord and taylor?

Call, first but it was in Manasset. I am not sure if that one is still open. I have been the Elizabeth Arden in Woodbury and that was fine. I still bring my own tools.

A day spa or a high end hair salon with a manicurist on staff.

The only way you are safe from fungus is if they use individual basins. Any tub with jets can never be properly disinfected. I was told this by a podiatrist who treated me for nail fungus. Do the higher end places use individual basins? Doing my own pedicures is getting old! It's been three years.

I know the spa area in Bocu in Commack uses individual basins, I've been there. I forget the price but it's obviously higher than your typical nail place. I think Posh in Babylon might also have the no jet basins but it was so long ago that I don't remember.

I have been doing my own for a while now because I get so grossed out at the unsanitary practices that I've seen at every strip mall nail salon I've tried. I hate doing my own nails but it beats fungus or hepatitis.

They should just outlaw those jets.
What's the point of them anyway?
They do nothing for me and they harbor fungus

My sister-in-law recently got her nail technician license. They actually taught her in her class not to use pedicure tubs with jets.

J. Lee in Huntington!!!!

They do not have "pedicure chairs", they wheel over a plastic lined tub filled with water and toss it when you are done.

It's an amazing salon.

I just looked this up. its on New York Avenue, just south of the Village. It used to be a diner so it looks like a weird building for a nail salon.

Me too - just looked it up. Looks nice! It's on NY Ave, immediately past the Big H shopping center

Right after the Big H shopping Center off New York Ave. Used to be a diner kind of place, but the place is gorgeous!!!!

I get a gel mani & reg pedi and it's $44 (They are running a grand opening special not sure how long it will last)

Check it out, you wont be disappointed.
