Hey, i wouldn't recommend going to the new york grooming school or anything like that. most groomers get their experience and learn from either just working in a salon, or going with a corporate company like petco or petsmart. with both, you have to start off as a bather/fluffer and then they send you to a grooming academy (or if it's a salon, you learn under the main groomer) and you learn everything you need to know there. with places like petco or petsmart, you won't learn true skill, you'll learn the basics and the type of dogs that go in there, normally don't ask for breed cuts, just shave downs (or they have to cause they're dogs are complete matted messes) if you really wanna learn and spend the money (i don't think they do job placement) then i'd go to boces. otherwise just try and get a job at a salon and they'll teach you but make sure you're very clear with them that's your intentions otherwise they'll stick you as a bather and that's all you'll ever be.
