Are there any places to go.....
to learn how to crochet?
I can do basic stitches and have made numerous blankets, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out some of the stuff in the instruction book, even after watching tutorials and stuff. I would love to make some stuff for the baby, but cant follow those darn patterns

Re: Are there any places to go.....
check your library. Lots of times they have classes.
Or try Michaels or AC Moore.

Re: Are there any places to go.....
I do not know if they still do it but I was once told at AC Moore that they have a knitting/crochet lady on a certain day of the week and you can go and start/bring projects and she'll help you.
I just took a knitting class through my local adult ed. You can check that out for crochet. After my first knitting project of a scarf, I'm going to go to my local yarn store to inquire about my next project and maybe see if there is a club to attend. I'm quite sure they have the same help for crochet so check out a local yarn store.
Not sure where you are but there's Granny's in Islip and Rumplesltilkin's in Sayville that I know of.

AC Moore does have that...I've seen her there.
Michaels and AC Moore both have lessons, but those might be for beginners....it sounds like you already know how but just need some help with patterns.

Re: Are there any places to go.....
I just took a lesson at Rumplestiltskin Yarns in Sayville. I think it was $30 for a private lesson-one hour long. The instructor was great, she was the owner. I have to make an appt. for my second lesson.
