I called to see if my ped got it in and they said they can only give it to Alexa - almost 9 months not Andrew - 3 1/2 yrs old.

Are there 2 different shots for kids?

I think Andrew is more at risk since he is in school then Alexa.

Yes and they give it to them at 2 different times

ETA: Eva is 15 months and 2 weeks ago they only had the shots in for kids 3 yrs and under so my older kids had to wait until the other ones came in

They are probably just giving the injectibles to children under 3, since older healthy children can take the mist (based on the "shortages").

Flumist, intranasal vaccine is indicated for patients 2 to 49 years old with no underlying chronic medical conditions, e.g. asthma, reactive airways, diabetes, immune deficiency, etc

I dont think I answered your question fully. No special vaccine to a baby under one year. There is the mercury free single dose shots for children 6mths to 3 years. In addition, there are the mutli dose vials containing mercury that some peds may give to young children.

The single dose shots are for children 3 and under, but can be given to older children as well. The flumist contains live virus so that is only given to healthy older children 2 and up if the parent wants it.

The one for under 1 (or high risk such as NICU graduates, etc.) is preservative free. I believe it is free for under 2, otherwise you would have to pay for it (insurance does not cover it)
