are there events you dread going to???
I have to go to a baby shower this Saturday for someone on DH's side and I'm just dreading it.... Mostly because I've gained some weight and I'm dreading the little old Italian ladies who love to pat my belly and question "Bambino?" (believe I've seen this happen) I also feel because it's a baby shower that conversation is going to turn to when am I going to have a baby - they all say - you're not getting any younger, you've been married for a year, etc...
Believe I'm happy for the mom to be I'm just dreading what the day is going to be like for me. Because it;s DH's family I can't really say what I want - "Like leave me alone old woman"
just venting.....

I'm sorry Donna. It's totally frustrating.
I'm not sure if this helps but if they say anything... maybe you can say something simple like "Not yet, but keep me in your prayers"?

Ah- I'm sorry. If it were me, I would try to think up some good responses that may get them to be quiet. Keep your chin up!

OH MY you just explained my WHOLE family. I know exactly how you feel. I put a few pounds on too and i have been getting those same remarks. It got to the piont that once I said, 'No baby, this belly is all food'. Keep your head up, feel good about your self, and don't let anyone bring you down.

I can totally relate. I've had 3 baby showers in 5 weeks. The last one I just couldn't bring myself to go to. I felt so bad for not going but it was just too much. I say do what you need to do for yourself. It's VERY Hard attending baby showers when you have been unsuccessful in TTC yourself.

Wow, this sounds like my family too (and DH's for that matter)! Especially given my weight gain, post-marriage, and the fact that even though we haven't said outright WE ARE TTC I think they all assume we are anyhow - they think that its their RIGHT to ask me "so any baby yet" when really all I want to say is ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
So to Donna and to ALL of you in these situations - count me in! Unfortunately I know full well what is like to dread going to certain functions where you know this subject is going to be all around ya. I too often wish I could avoid them entirely and sometimes its just hard. I don't even have a witty comback or answer for you --- other than to try to stay positive and remember one day you WILL be able to say "yup I AM PG" and shut them all up for good

Re: are there events you dread going to???
i always dread going to work related functions like holiday parties etc. I see enough of these people during the day I do not need to see more of them on my time.
ETA: sorry I forgot I was posting on TTC I thought I was on NFR
Donna, I so know what you mean. I have gained so much weight since I got married it's not funny. I always feel like people will be whispering about me at family functions. And it's nobody's business when you decide to have a family or even if you are in the process! I would smile and walk away LOL

Re: are there events you dread going to???
I get this all the time -- usually answer with something like "Oh of course YOU will CERTAINLY be the FIRST to know when I am inseminated!!"
THat shuts them up.....but then again, I say things like that....

Re: are there events you dread going to???
I hate all group events lately. For that question & for not knowing if I can have a drink or not. Then being aware that my not drinking raises more questions. It's a vicious cycle.
I was reading InStyle Magazine yesterday and they had maternity T-Shirts that said cute things like "Boy" or "Girl" or "Not Finding Out" and one of them said "Yes, I'm pregnant".
It made me think that I want to make one for myself that says, "No, I'm not pregnant yet" for these events.
