Are we crazy to take visitors out to Montauk on Thursday?

I have some family over from Ireland and they requested to see the Hamptons and Montauk. My husband's only day of this week is Thursday. What would be the best time to leave? 10:00? 8:00? never? (We live near the Smithaven Mall) We were thinking of going straight to Montauk, go through East Hampton, up to Sag Harbor, then the two ferries to the North Fork. Should we go up the North Fork instead and take the ferries to Sag Harbor? TIA

Honestly if you leave early--like 7am you may beat the traffic and zip there. We went a few weeks ago on a Sunday and miraculously hit no traffic.

Weekdays the early morning is the worst, its the trade parade. Plus nothing will be open in Montauk that early. If you can get to the Shinnecock canal around 9am you should hit light traffic all the way to montauk. work your way back west and take the ferry to the north fork and take that way home. otherwise you'll sit in the trade parade out of the hamptons during the evening rush.

Thanks! (and yes, I had to look up Trade Parade!-The first thing that came to my mind was the Get Laid Parade!
