Are we cutting ourselves short?
Our 1 year anniversary is on Saturday- we just got back from sesame place yesterday, and of course are now broke...
We arent exchanging gifts-but were planning on doing dinner and a movie (any rec'd's - We've never been to sweet waters ) Between money and time we just dont have it this weekend...
Then- I start feeling like we are putting our marriage last ( like we often do ) and say- I dont wanna start our 1st yr. off, w/o giving our anniversary the proper "celebration" it needs....
So they i say- lets spurlge- go over night to Fox woods- Dh would rather not spend money we dont have and when you think about it- DH works on sat until 4-by the time we'd get there- and then we'd have to leave early Sunday morning ( we have a christening to go to) it wouldnt even be worth it.....
I mean our vow renewal is in october- so i guess in a way- thats kinda our 1 yr. celebration
I dunno-sometimes i feel like we put everything before ourselves- and in the end- i dont want us to suffer from it...
Hope im not sounding spoiled- because thats so not what I mean......dinner and a movie is just fine.... but I feel like we are just doing the usual Sat. night routine...

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
You don't sound spoiled at all just because you want to do something special for your 1st anniversary. Foxwoods doesn't sound like a great idea, just because of the time factor. I think I would be happy going out to a very nice dinner. I haven't been to Sweet Waters so I have no idea how good it is. I'm not sure what area you want to stick to, but we went to Gatsby's for my birthday a couple of years ago and really liked it. I've also heard great things about Teller's. I've always wanted to try it. How about a night out at a more local hotel (maybe someplace like Danford's) after dinner? That might make it a little bit more special and it's not so far away. And if you have time before the christening the next morning treat yourselves to a nice brunch. I'm not sure what you're doing for your vow renewal, but October seems kinda far away. I think you should still celebrate now.
Have fun whatever you end up doing!

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
Why not just do dinner and a movie on your anniversary, and the go to Foxwoods the following weekend. It doesn't have to be on your anniversary.

Marissa...don't wait...me and DH did the same thing in March, let's wait because of Bella, or the it was because of something else. Well, it's July and we still never really celebrated our anniversary!
You HAVE to make sure you guys take time for yourself. However way you can work it...
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

You don't sound spoiled at all. We concieve our DD on our first anniversary (my honeymoon baby a year later) But she was here for our second anniversary. We just went to dinner but it was so nice just for it to be the 2 of us again that it was an amazing night! We just went to one of our favorite restaurants and came home- nothing special but it was awesome. This year will probably be a repeat performance next Wed.

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
absolutely not....
our 1 year was a nice dinner at home with the $160 pictures I took for him at Glamour Shots. The next day we went out househunting and found our home. nothing fancy....but it was US.
Do your simple dinner and movie. Enjoy the alone time, reflect on the last year.
Sweetwaters is part of the Lessings corp. (I had my wedding at one of their halls) and the food was great...I hear SW is great.
What is important is that you are married 1 year.....and HAPPY.

I don't think you are being spoiled by wanting to celebrate your anniversary -- quite the opposite actually.
What about splitting the difference between foxwoods & dinner/move - go to a fancier place for dinner (dinner cruise, some place on the water, fancy place in the city, etc)?

I say go to a nice dinner. Sweetwaters is yummy, especially if you like fondue!

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
I say do something now - a nice dinner but something different afterwards instead of a movie so that it's not the typical Sat night routine.
It doesn't even have to be expensive, just something different and memorable. Maybe go into the city for dinner and take a romantic walk through the park afterwards, splurge on a horse a carriage ride even. Or plan an after dinner dessert and wine picnic on the beach.
Definitely not sounding spoiled.

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
Honestly we didn't do anything huge for our 1st anniversary because I was due any day. So we went to dinner and exhanged cards for our paper. I hope by 5 years (praying to god we make it that long ) we can leave whatever kids we have with family and take a great 2nd honeymoon.
I think like you said your vow renewal will be the real celebration.

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
I dont even remember our first anniversary...we are not into spending a large amount of money for our anniversary. We would prefer to save it for travel. We get each other small gifts throughout the year.

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
Marissa -- the same thing happened to us this year. We celebrated our Anniversary on July 2nd -- and we had big plans of going out all day to the vineyards and then staying overnight in a B&B and between not being able to get a babysitter for that long and just not having the extra money to spend on something so uncessary -- we didn't do it.
We did have a fantastic dinner at Rachel's in Freeport --- and brought home a bottle of wine so that we could relax a bit afterwards since she was sleeping anyway.
But I do wish that I could have a night out with DH. I am struggling with not wanting to take money out of savings for something like that when we know that there are a lot of things coming up that we'll need it for ... and just wanting to let go of it all and give our relationship some extra TLC since life is so crazy lately and we really don't give that extra time to eachother often.
What does your DH think about it??
And BTW I've been to Sweet Waters and it's AWESOME -- the desert fondue, OMG!

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
No you don't sound spoiled. Remember all that matters is that you guys will be together - where you are doesn't matter.
We didn't do anything really special for our 1st anniversary except dinner and a movie. I had just had the baby and just didn't feel like celebrating.
Well now this year, we are on such a tight budget that we probably won't do anything big. Our friend is letting us use their cottage in Michigan for the weekend. So we'll make a nice dinner and hang out around the town and lake michigan.

Re: Are we cutting ourselves short?
Sweet waters has pasta, seafood, steaks -- actually I think I picked up one of thier menus when I was there -- DH has a silly colleciton of menus -- he's weird -- he likes to look at menus before we go to places to make sure they'll be something he likes since he's picky....
but basically pasta, seafood, steaks -- i had the sesame crusted tuna while I was there and it was AWESOME and my brother had steak and loved it!
