Are you allowed to lift heavy things while PG?

I'm not pregnant yet, but I need to know because of my job... did you get told that you couldn't lift things in your first trimester?

Re: Are you allowed to lift heavy things while PG?

I am a nurse and if I had a heavy patient I always got other people to lift them up in bed-esp my 1st trimester because I wasn't taking any chances.

So, did you tell everyone very early on that you were pregnant so they would know to help you out? What about when you were just TTC, and you didn't know if you were pregnant or not yet--did you lift patients then? Hope you don't mind all my questions! Thanks!

I think that no heavy lifting is one of the first things I read in my pregnancy books. It's definately a no-no.

Can you confide in just a boss/supervisor or a particular co-worker so that you can have help in lifting without outing yourself to everyone!

Re: Are you allowed to lift heavy things while PG?

Basically, I work with children that have behavior problems and have been told that if they throw themselves down on the floor and flail around, I should pick them up and move them myself! I am not pregnant yet, but am afraid that doing this could interfere with implantation early on (am I being overly neurotic?) before I even know I'm pregnant for sure!

I am not comfortable with telling my coworkers that I am TTC right now. So I guess for now I will just have to figure out another way to get someone else to do that for me. Any suggestions?!?!

how about telling them you have a bad back?Chat Icon

I dont think heavy lifting will stop you from conceiving. you just have to avoid it onced you are prego.

good luck!

I always thought - that anything you have been lifting you can continue? Anyone else hear that? I have a 12 month old and I have no choice but to lift him? Chat Icon

I also heard that unless you are at-risk, there is nothing wrong with lifting things. Of course, you don't want to over-do it and hurt your back while your pregnant.

I think it's ok. What else can you do when you already have children. I can't neglect my son.
