Re: Are you in your forever home?
It could be, it's big enough for our needs and we love our town. But it most likely won't be, we have been casually looking for an upgrade, but have a few things to work through before moving ahead.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
We'll be moving in a few months in a house that could be our forever home. IF we stay on the island.
The house we're in now, I wanted to be our forever home. It's a starter home that we were going to expand on. But that didn't work out.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Um, considering the fact that the market tanked - we're in this house for the long haul - unless we hit lotto !!
there's NO way we'd get what we paid for it, OR what we put in to it -
Thankfully we bought in a great area, on a good plot. w/ all of the other things we wanted, and considerable 'potential'

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Our current home could be our forever home because it's in a great location, amazing school district, and it's functional and fits our current needs. However, we would like a bigger house with more land. We've been looking and we haven't found anything that we love to make us want to put our house on the market.

Forever. It's small and it's kind of a hovel.. but it's mine and I love it and I'm staying.
At least that's the plan...

Re: Are you in your forever home?
When we bought we thought it would be our forever home - but now I would really love to move. Our home is good for us and I do not necessarily want a much bigger house but I am not 100% happy with our section of our town.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
We are going to close this week on our house. We bought from my parents and got an OK deal but I don't see this as our forever home even though it's a large size. It's the home I grew up in and although we are making it our own, it doesn't quite feel like it's ours.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
When we started house hunting we both agreed that a starter home wasn't for us. We lived togehter in a great apartment for 2 years until we found our forever home. We bought a fully updated home with plenty of room and potential to expand should we have more than 3 kids.
IMO, real estate is not a short term investment. Why buy a starter home when you can just rent?

Re: Are you in your forever home?
We're in a starter that we are stuck in because of the market. We are saving now for our forever home. I hope to move out in 1-2 years even if that means we take a hit. Or we are seriously considering renting this house out and buying another. Hopefully that is feasible.

IMO, real estate is not a short term investment. Why buy a starter home when you can just rent? not for nothing but there is nothing wrong with owning a starter home. You get what you can afford at the time you were looking. A starter home many times is used as a stepping stone to eventually get that bigger house. No one I know lives in where they started. Usually you stay in a starter until you can upgrade as your careers advance, save money, etc.
To be very honest I would rather own anything than rent even if that means it's a small house. With renting you will never see that money again, IMO. It does not go to you like a house would (you will never see any return). Renting is not for everyone. Not saying anything is wrong with it, but for us it wouldn't have benefited us at all. It's great that some people can afford forever homes but for many people that's just not possible!!! A starter is a good stepping stone IMO.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
we bought a one bed coop in 2005, sold and purchased this house in 2010. it's big enough for us forever. the land is nice the nabe is great.
Once the kids get to college age and move out, I want to downgrade so we can retire and travel . so I guess this isn't really our forever home

Re: Are you in your forever home?
No. In a starter. Realistically could raise a fam here but I could see myself wanting more room. We want to stick wih condos though and I already know the condo dev I'd want to move to. It's def big enough to be a forever home. Place has more ammenities than ours and we'd still be in same school district. Same town. Just couldnt afford it right now :/

Re: Are you in your forever home?
we bought in 2008 with the idea that it was a starter home but had the potential to be our forever home if need be. Now that we have been in the house 3 years, I REALLY dont want it to be our forever home. I dont love the location...although its fine. and the house is really too small for a growing family. If we put alot of money in to dormer and expand, we could probably make it our forever home but I really dont want to do that. I hope we can move in 5 or so years.

Probably - at least until DS finishes school and we are ready to move to a condo.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Absolutely a starter home. We also may put in a new kitchen, and do some siding and move around some windows and doors, however, I really doubt we will see a big return on our investment, so don't want to put a ton of work in this house. Definitely no extensions here! While we are not far from the water, we are also in a not-so-great school district, so that weighs against us big time.
Honestly, I would prefer to move the heck off Long Island. It's too expensive here IMO and I am not crazy about the idea of raising DS on LI.
My parents own their home outright----totally paid off---Upstate----so the plan may be we buy out my sister's share if anything happens to them and move up there.
She's probably going to get married soon anyways, and she lives with her BF who owns their home in PA.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
I thought so...and it totally could be. But things have changed a bit and if all goes well, we're going to try to buy a new house in a year or two...a house with everything we want, instead of just most of the things we want.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Our forever. We gutted the entire house & made it to our liking, plus we love our location. We might do a half dormer to add another two bedrooms, but that wont be for another few years.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Forever home...When we purchased our home 5.5 years ago, we knew we did not want a "starter" but wanted something to grow into. DH & I both came from homes in which our parents bought when they were either expecting us or we were infants. We wanted the same.
With that said, DH & I have talked about moving in the future but that is not because we won't fit in the home or what not, it will just be for a change of scenary (ie the water)

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Forever home. Would I consider selling and upgrading to a bigger home someday? Maybe, but we bought a house that we'd want to stay in forever because we didn't want to risk that we'd be stuck in something too small or that we didn't love forever due to the market or what not.
