Starter home. We bought a 2 bedroom co-op in a location we love but plan to buy a house a few years down the road.
Same here

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Starter home. It's a 3 BR townhouse. We hope to do a few upgrades here, and then move to a forever home in about 5-6 years.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Starter - it's 3 BR 1.5 baths, but not enough space. We're waiting for the right forever house to come along.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Could be. Odds are yes but I will never say never. But I always try to buy with the thought that it could be a forever home if need be.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
ours has the potential to be a forever home if we need it to be...but i'm not sure i want to be living in a townhome forever, i think i'd like my own yard and pool one day...but if we stay here we can be mortgage free by the time DH is 50...so i don't know...we said it would have to make sense for us to move financially - we want to have whatever house we are living in paid off before we are at retirement age...both of our parents are struggling and we don't want to be in their shoes when we are their ages...

Yes on our current income. No if we hit the lottery.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
I would love to think it's our starter home, but the reality is we'll be here for a looooooooooooong time. The market suucks here and the house is ok. We can have 2 kids and by the time we want more it'll be at least 3-5years. We need to do a lot of work and we could add on if we need to. I hate how small it is but I love my house I can't imagine moving. We came home from our honeymoon here, we concieved a baby here, brought her home here, and GOD willing will have another. Yea it has faults, but i'm hoping over the next few years we can make it work for us. I think with the right redos and design help we could be ok.......

Re: Are you in your forever home?
When we first bought it we thought it was going be a forever home, after a few years living here and adding a baby, we have decided this will just be our started house.

IMO, real estate is not a short term investment. Why buy a starter home when you can just rent?
Many people expand on their starter home or their family outgrows it. Besides renting is throwing money down the toilet because you are not putting money into something that will become yours. You're paying someone else's mortgage/bills.
ETS: I do understand where you are coming from though. Many people are just against renting and rather have their own home.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
I plan on being in my home until I retire and move out of NY most likely. Four bedrooms/2 bath which is perfect for us because we plan on having 2 kids.

Thats easy for me to answer. We didnt rent, didnt want it, it wasnt for us.
We bought a starter home, what we could afford. Stayed 2.5 years. The house could have fit us forever if need be, but our salaries went up considerably in those 2.5 years with promotions and such. SO we could afford a nicer home in a nicer area. And we sold our starter for 60K more than we paid.
We never would have made that extra money if we had of rented. And we wouldnt have saved THAT much more in rent vs mortgage as we had a reasonable mortgage.
We were lucky that time, we sold before the market tanked, if we had of waited even 1 more year we wouldnt have gotten such a nice profit.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Bought a starter home (we thought) 15 years ago, but then after our 2nd DC, we started looking at options, and decided that doubling the s/f of our current home was the cheapest, most logical option for us. We love our location, school district, neighbors, etc, and we had plenty of space to expand.

Forever home. We are going to eventually dormer the attic area (its a split) to make a master suite and then we are good.
Unless of course we hit the lotto
This is what we would like to do too. Even if we can't do that eventually, it is still our forever home. Neither DH nor I have any desire to move again.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
right now, starter home though we kind of did it backwards.
we bought a brand new condo in 2008. It is really amazing but we are out growing it.
so now we are house hunting for our "forever home" and its hard to go from everything BRAND new, CAC, stainless, granite, moldings galore to a home that might need some work
whatever we find, we will make it our dream forever home

Re: Are you in your forever home?
we are-- but we do plan to build a second level before my kids are teenagers. its plenty of space now, and great for small kids-- but i feel it will be too close for comfort when i have older kids. now i just have a 2 yr old. plus i want a huge master suite.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
We are in a starter home but if we had to/wanted to stay, we could, as long as we finish the basement and add another bathroom down there. We love the location, so we could make it work.
We hope though that we will move on to bigger and better in the future.

Our 1st house (starter home) we estimated to be there 3 -5 years. We moved out in 3 1/2...
Our current home we estimated to be here 10 - 15 years, so far 9 years... We plan to move in a few years

Re: Are you in your forever home?
Starter, but we bought in a good area with good schools in case we wouldn't be able to upgrade. We've been here 8 years and looking to move in the next 1-2 years if possible.

Re: Are you in your forever home?
We have a starter home. We've already lived in it much longer than we originally anticipated, thanks to the fall of the housing market.
