Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
well I can tell you that when we were looking the homes in our starter terms in WI were extremely tiny. Babylon you probably get more for your money but WI schools are fantastic.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
I grew up in Babylon Village. I absolutely love the village, and the schools and can not say enough good things. The schools are very good, the village is great with a ton of good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, boutiques, etc. The water is right there, (a lot of people live on the water) and the beaches are wonderful. If you work in the city its a 50 minute express train. It also has a great small-town feel and most of my friends who lived there are now getting married and moving back. South of Montauk is very expensive. If you look in the area north of Montauk, you might be able to find something in the $500K range.
I am not too familiar with West Islip. I know its known as a good area, and the schools are good. Its much bigger than Babylon, with a lot more people in the schools.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
Im from Babylon while DW is from West Islip. Both are great areas. I favor Babylon more cause i believe the SD is better then WI. Town/village is set up nice. WI doesn't have a true 'village' if you are in to those things. Above poster mention tiny starter homes in WI is very true unless you find that rare house. (if we had more money, we probally be living in WI now)
Babylon i would think is the more expensive of the two.
Just be careful searching for propertys as same listings say babylon school, they are really talking about west babylon.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
I just purchased in West Islip and I grew up in West Islip. West Islip is a very small community compared to others, I can go to the grocery store and bump into many people I know. The school district is one of the best on the Island, they have a very high student spending limit and the sports teams are also very good. I would say that Babylon and West Islip are very similar in many ways except that West Islip does not have as many older homes and that we also do not have a village. But the prices for homes start about $400K for a start on up. You can find something under $400K but it usually needs major work or is very small.

what is your opinion about west babylon sd? I live in West Babylon. The school is OK, but not as good as Babylon SD. Definitely make sure that the real estate agent is forthcoming with the SD info.
I found this info on WIkipedea..hope it helps... Babylon Schools Most of the residents of the Village of Babylon are served by the Babylon Union Free School District (UFSD). Since the school district lines are not coextensive with the village boundaries, as is common on Long Island, some residents of Babylon Village are in the West Babylon UFSD and, conversely, some residents of North Babylon go to the village schools, as well as residents of Oak Island, Oak Beach, Gilgo, West Gilgo, and Captree Island across the Great South Bay.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
Babylon SD is very tiny- they have only one school that is middle school and high school combined.
WBabylon is a good SD. It has a great mix of kids and great programs - I used to teach there and their inclusion program for special ed kids was phenomenal.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
west islip, west babylon and babylon schools districts are great - babylon sd is very small though some people from babylon village go to west babylon sd
both areas are really nice and affordable if you look
i would stay away from north babylon sd though bc they always have problems passing their budgets

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
I grew up in West Islip and loved it.....Safe neighborhood, great schools. If I could have afforded to live on LI, I would have tried to buy a house there.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
We both grew up in West Islip, and this is where we would love to stay. We have expanded our search to Babylon as well. It seems every house we call on in WI is already in contract

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
my best friend teaches in WB. SD is good...just bigger. I graduated back in 96 from babylon with a class of 100. I would think by now, it might be up to 150s or higher...

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
Some Babylon homes are in North Babylon school district. Some homes in West Babylon are actually Babylon SD. I think WB and Babylon are fine, NB not as much.

Re: Babylon/West Islip area?
Hi, We live in West Islip. We bought our "starter" home here 3 years ago. We are on a busy street, so we will not be here for more than a few more years.
We will either look for a new house in this town or Babylon. I love the village..
