We're doing carpet tiles. They're big squares of carpet that you lay down like tile (but aren't permanent). If one get stained, you can just replace the bad one. We figured that kids throw up and spill juice and things like that. We saw them on Dear Genevieve on HGTV. They have them at Lowe's and Home Depot.
