It depends on the size of the room. I would not buy an area rugh the same size of the room. especially if you have beautiful floors. You want it to serve as an accent piece to your room, not overpower the room or be wall-to-wall carpeting.

Old pics, but I have 8x10 in my LR and 5x8 in mty den.
I would measure and mark the corners with painters tape to see which one would look better.
