Arg!! Synthroid increase
So I'm 6 weeks pregnant and they're ALREADY playing with my doses of Synthroid.. Going up from 125mcg to 137mcg. My pharmacy didn't even have that dose, they had to order it! I hope my levels even out. I would hate to have to keep increasing doses throughout this entire pregnancy..

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
I do not have a thyroid problem but other immune related difficulty. I have read how important it is to keep your levels right during pregnancy. The thyroid is intricately involved in pregnancy. Good luck!

I have hypothyroid. Synthroid is the medication that gives me that hormone that I don't produce on my own...

AHH! OMG! It really gets knocked that out of whac??? Wow... I'm really out of the loop.
How often does everyone get their TSH checked? My *new* MD wants to see me again in 8 weeks.. is that too long?

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
Yes, pregnancy can cause havoc with blood levels of any medications you take. I take a different medication for a different problem, and I've had to adjust the dosage twice. I'm hoping that's it for now, and maybe it will be since I've only got 9 weeks to go.
Weight gain is part of it, increased blood levels, and metabolism changes can all affect the way a medication stays in your blood.
I've heard synthroid is pretty safe to take during pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
Honestly, I only just went about a month and a half ago, I had sent in my blood work via fax before.
He said my new bloodwork was good but could be better. Then I went back a few weeks later (last week) and he raised me again.
I have to have blood drawn next week again and go back 2 weeks after that.
It isn't great for my wallet either because my endo doesn't take my insurance so I pay out of pocket.
I also feel like a pincushion!

Gina - does he let you just call him? I never understood why we need to actually go in (other than for him to have a appt to bill). My last endo just called me with my lab results and mailed me my Rx's (granted, he s u c ked, but still...).

A few times he let me just have my bloodwork faxed in because I had it drawn at my OB, and he would call if there was anything. But lately he has been having me come in.....
Next appointment I will see if I can go back to just faxing in......

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
My last appt I literally waited over an hour so he could look at my bloodwork results and tell me to keep taking what I'm taking.

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
With my previous pregnancy they increased me almost every 6 to 8 weeks. So far with this preg. I've been increased twice in 6 weeks I am up to 250 mcg and I'm only at 20 weeks. From my understanding pregnancy throws it all out of whack butafterwards you should be able to lower the dosage.

I started at 75mcg and am now at 150, but I haven't had an increase in a few months.

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
This is Completely normal to have an increase throughout your pregnancy. due to the increase in hormone levels makes an increase demand for more synthyroid. Don't worry the increase is only while you are pregnant!!!

Re: Arg!! Synthroid increase
Mine did the same thing when I was pregnant - 125 - 137. I was at 125 for years and now I am at 112 post baby. It is nothing to worry about.
