ARGH

Seriously. If one more person b#tches about how annoying it is that teachers complain about going back to work, that they wish they had summers off...

don't tell me something I don't already know!!! Then become a FREAKING TEACHER!

UGH sorry. I'm in a bad place today. I have so much anxiety, I'm depressed. I'm gonna miss my kid.

No need to freaking pour salt in the wounds to make me feel like I'm ungrateful or being ridiculous. This is my life, this is what I deal with. It's always hard to go back. It HURTS.

Quit freaking diminishing my feelings!!! Especially when it's a friend who puts it on her facebook status.

It's like kicking you when you're down. No one wants to be told they have no reason to feel the way they do. SHUT UP.

Sorry, vent over. I knew you guys would understand.Chat Icon

I completely agree! It's awful when you read ignorant people posting that on newsday articles or saying it out loud. Nobody is preventing these people who want to be teachers for the time off to get the education required to become a teacher and to go through the cost and effort to obtain and maintain certification.

People need to stop competing with each other. There are benefits to office jobs in terms of having more down-time at your desk and not having to manage difficult kids. There are benefits to teaching jobs in terms of the summers off. Let's just all get along and appreciate what we all do for society.

Re: ARGH

First of all Tara, we understand you and you know I do!

Secondly, tell those people to come in and do your job for a week! They would be crying by day 2!

People are just jealous! And if they want your schedule so badly them tell them to go into teaching!

next time they complain about a Sunday night or Monday morning - tell them that they are lucky to have a job with the unemployment rate.

I have someone on FB that started posting nasty posts and pictures on Monday about just this. "Let me get the WAMbulance for all the teachers who have to go back." I am biting my tongue but I have a feeling if he keeps it up I am going to go OFF on him. I'm right there with you. Chat Icon

ugh and those who rub it in!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I feel sorta bad- I think my own emotions made me overreact to her post. It was good natured on her part...but she just said while she loves all her teacher friends, she's bitter and jealous of our posts, lamenting about going back to work - she just wishes SHE had a summer off. I dunno, I had just posted a status about how sad I was....and I felt hurt by it. So I know I overreacted.

Thanks everyone!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: ARGH

I hear ya!!

I have a whole list of things to say when people start with that:

First of all- SUMMER SCHOOL! There are so many teachers that work summers (myself included). For 3 years I worked 2 full time jobs (8AM-10PM straight) to help pay off my loans to become a teacher.

Second- we don't get to pick our vacations. So many people can just request off when they want to go away. My DH can't get off a lot of the same weeks as me because he does not have the seniority at his job to get the holiday weeks. We don't get to chose our vacations.
In addition to that I've been doing a lot of lesson planning over the summer for my job in the Fall. I'd rather do it over the summer instead of staying late/going in early as much over the year.

And of course, I always bring up the fact that they could have been teachers as well. When you chose a career you take vacations, sick days, etc into consideration.

And finally- doesn't everyone complain about going back to work after a vacation? Yet teachers are the only ones who get called out on it!

This is exactly how I feel. Almost everyone has a difficult time going back to work after a vacation.
