Argh! Cold sores?
Does anyone get them? I haven't had one in like a year. Of course Sunday while I was away and had nothing with me, I get the start of one. I swear it has to do with the change of weather, it happened last Sept too. Anyway the friggin thing multiplied already and my nose is even red. Anyone have any tips? I am going away for a few days on Thurs for a conf and this is the last thing I want.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol handy, every half hour dab it on the cold sore, they'll heal much quicker then if you use abreva or anything like that.
anytime i think i'm goign to get one i use the alcohol and they never even surface.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
Usually when I feel one, I take a bunch of Lysene (amino acid) and they never surface, but I was away and now it is ridiculous. Thanks for the tip on the alcohole.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
My dr. gave me a script of Deniver and it works so well. It is expensive considering how small the tube is ( think it is smaller than Abreva) but it works so fast. I tried the alcohol but it didnt work for me. Feel better I know it s*cks getting them.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I take L-Lysene every day. I also take prescription Valtrex when one starts to surface. It really prevents it from swelling and it heals faster. I put prescription Zovirax cream on it as well.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
ALL the time!!!
Honestly the best thing that has worked is Valtrex-presciription pills. They actually avoid the sore from coming out more and the meds stay in your systems and helps the healing process. The min I feel that tingle, I pop one and within 3 days its gone.
I do add the cream as well but the pill has been the most effective.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I used to use Abreva, but I don't find it works all that well. Drying it out didn't seem to help me. Now I just use Blistex or Carmex in the little tub. I find that keeping it moist work the best for me.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I think I am getting one and I can't find my prescription cream that I got a long time ago for it. I haven't had one in years (so I guess the script would be expired already anyways. Anyone else have any suggestions??

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
When I feel the tingling, do a few things. I either put Pepto Bismal on it, ice, blow dry it, and/or use peroxide.
I know it sounds crazy but "they" work.

I never had one my whole life until a few weeks ago. I used Campho Phenique and it went away in 2 days.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I used to get them all the time...I've tried it all...over the counter stuff, some prescription stuff like Valtrex...which worked well.
But, the minute I feel that tingle, I found the best thing to do is to immediately put ice on it...seems to stop it from coming out so huge...

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I've had them as well. Believe it or not, they say that sauerkraut juice helps them or shrinks them.....my grandma believes in that one....I've never quite tried it. The doctor had given me a prescription of Valtrex and that helped. Good luck to you...hope it goes away!!

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
I don't get them off - but of course, got one the day before MY WEDDING (My poor makeup artist). The Rx Famvir works if you take it religiously.

Re: Argh! Cold sores?
Thanks ladies! I went out last night and bought L-Lysine and Blistex (that's all they had in CVS). I've been putting alcohol on it too but it looks like it wants to be a problem for me! I'm going to run out in a bit and pick up something better!!! I feel like I have a fat lip
