I actually read something like this on Big BLack Dogs almost a year ago, right before i got Porter. No i am proud to say i am a Big Black Dog owner

My Shawnee was a BEAUTIFUL black dog. I would get another one in a HEARTBEAT.
I did notice that people reacted to him differently. He didn't have a vicious bone in his body, but because of his size and color, people (even people who worked at one of the veterinarian's offices that I took him to) treated him like he was Cujo.

i can understand why this would happen but i LOVE black dogs, especially after having a rottie... i will definitely look at adopting a black dog/puppy first if possible when i am ready!

Awww, poor kitties. I have a solid black cat that came from a shelter. I actually prefer black cats.
I love black dogs, too, though I honestly have never owned one.
I never knew of these statistics until I read this article. So sad.

This article makes me wonder. I have a black dog and a reddish brown dog, who gets WAY more attention from random people than the black one does. People are constantly asking what kind of dog she is, trying to pet her, etc. while they ignore the black one. I always figured it was just because the reddish one is smaller/cuter, but after reading this... it makes me think.

My FIL told me this a while ago and I didnt realize he was right. He will only have black dogs, he swears that thye are better protection at night than a lighter color.

I love black dogs. I had no idea. My little Tubbs is black. I was drawn to him the minute I saw him. He is the cutest.
Baby Tubbs when he was 10 weeks.
