Ash I the only one that doesn't understand all these sexual orientation and identification tends?
I was puzzled when filling out the birth certificate form that I had to choose a gender for the mother section. My third graders had to choose whether they were male female or other on a survey. But please explain transsexual vs transvestite? Bi sexual vs Pan sexual. I saw another one the other day. Ci sexual?
I try to be open minded and support lgbt but I'm a bit confused!

Re: Ash I the only one that doesn't understand all these sexual orientation and identification tends?
I may be wrong but I think:
Transvestite- someone that dresses as the opposite sex. ie. a man dressing as a woman. This does not mean they are necessarily attracted to the same sex.
Transsexual- someone who considers themselves as a person of the opposite sex. I don't believe they necessarily have to have gone through the process of changing from male to female or from female to male. They just need to identify themselves as opposite sex in order to be considered transsexual.
bi sexual- someone that is sexually attracted to both females and males.
Pan sexual- someone that is sexually attracted to someone regardless of how the other person identify themselves. ie. male, female, transgender, etc.
I think if a person is bisexual they are attracted to strictly male and females, however a pan sexual may also be attracted to someone who is transsexual.

All of the above. And cis is just the term for straight, "normal" for lack of a better term. So a woman who was born female and is straight is cis sexual, cis gender. That's why the term, instead of "normal" so that we can normalize everyone.

I can see female/male/other on an ordinary questionnaire, but I have no clue how you can be anything BUT female and be a mother?
Also, I don't think one's sexuality (ie bisexual, heterosexual) is an appropriate question on a questionnaire...not that you saw this on one...

gender and sex are not the same thing. you can have female sex organs and identify as male gender.

So my understanding in this case would be a transsexual male who has a child could be considered a mother as opposed to a father, because the individual identifies as a female?

There was a story a few years ago about a male that was born female. He still had female sexual organs, but took hormones that resulted in facial hair. He and his partner (I can't remember that person's gender) wanted children and the male became pregnant.

I don't get it. Seriously I don't. WHat does it mean to identify as female? As male? I see Cait and what I see and hear is she is feminine, she wanted a female body, nice clothes, long hair, the vanity of being a woman. It's like she is saying I identify with a girly girl not a tomboy. How is that not further segregating? We have all these terms, tom boy, manscaping and so on. I just don't understand. She can't possible identify as a woman. She can empathize with a woman but to truly identify she just can't. The same as a woman becoming a man.

But biologically, he was female. So it wasn't a man having a baby. It was a woman, who identifies as a male, having a baby.

From what I have gathered, so don't quote me lol, I believe what transgender people are trying to say is: my outside doesn't match my inside, my thoughts and soul are gender specific but my anatomy doesn't match. It's as if they look in the mirror and are constantly questioning what they see. My brother also told me that studies show transgender to have brain development as the gender they identify with, not the gender they were born as. So I don't think Cait is necessarily saying she wants to dress like a woman and feel feminine bc that would be a cross-dresser, but that her soul has always been a woman. I think it's hard to understand as a cis, because we have never really thought about our gender, or sexuality, never questioning since its mainstream. But for sure I can't identify with being a man, and I believe Cait is saying the same thing, that she has never identified with being a man, even though she was born that way.

This is something we will need to get used to. In my daughters high school, there are quite a few students who consider themselves Pansexual or Demisexual, there are transgenders and kids who call themselves Asexual. These are changing times we live in. I guess it only natural they start adding these things to questionairres.
