for ds' bday i got these cute mini sticker books (about $1,50 each) i ordered them on amazon. there's lots of different themes.

it's in Farmingdale and they have TONS of stuff - the palce is so fun! this is where we got ALL of our kids table stuff for our wedding!
(glow sticks, crafts, crayons, tattoos, stickers)
It's like Oriental Trading, but not online!

Those self adhesive foam shapes and letters/numbers...They sell door knob hangers and visors etc.. to decorate...Huge buckets of them are super cheap at Michaels & AC Moore (or Oriental Trading  )

I found them at Michaels.

Coloring books with Crayola markers that only color on the paper.
Depending on the age, there are these black scratch pads that have color underneath. It is akin to coloring but it's a little cooler.
The thing that occupies my kids time the most is a where is waldo book

For DD's 1st birthday I did coloring books--foam bookmarks and door hangers and bought the foam stick ons, michaels and ac moore have for $1 these wood coloring picture frames. For the older kids I got wood cars they could paint. It was a huge hit--I also got a pinata
