Asking for records...Updated with a new question...
We are leaving our vet practice. We want to go there this morning to get copies of her records - they shouldn't give us a problem, right?
They have been nothing but nasty and neglectful since day one. We are going to tell them why we are leaving and why they will not set a finger on our dog again - not even to remove the stitches from her spay.
UPDATE: So DH went without me - he wanted to be civil with them and I wanted to go in with guns blazing. All they gave him was the computer printout of the copies of the bills we get when we go there. Should we have been given actual copies of what was written and what she was in for each time? All these papers have is the date of her visits and what treatment (meds) were given. Nowhere does it state what we had brought her in for. Maybe the new vet can call and have them fax copies of her actual charts over?

Re: Asking for records...
I don't think they are allowed to give you a problem...they may tell you they can't give you the records right away is all...they usually have to copy them and make you wait a day or so.

Re: Asking for records...
Thanks girls - we are heading over in a little bit - I'll update when we get back.
We have an appointment with her new vet on Wednesday and we need the paperwork before then.

Re: Asking for records...
If you don't like the new vet, I can recommend my vet in Garden City Park if you want. They are amazing.
They should give you your records without a problem. The whole situation sounds horrible.

You can have the new vet call...they have to give up the records. But, I don't think the copies of the bills will be of any help to the new vet.

You are entitled to photocopies of her entire chart. You must ask for those. I would not give the new vet's name if htey tell you they want to send it there with your permission. Get it in your hands and hand deliver it to your new vet yourself.

Ok - I will go in tomorrow and try to get them. I knew what DH brought home wasn't going to be sufficient!
This is so aggravating. UGH!

This is so aggravating. UGH! I don't understand that mentality personally. What do they think, you will stay with their practice if you do not get the records? It's absurd.
FYI They can charge you a copying fee...I think we paid $.50 per page or some mess.
