Asparagus Recipes
I made asparagus from a can, and it was good but to heat it up I basically made mush out of it. How do you make your fresh/canned asparagus?

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I only like fresh asparagus.
I either put it in the oven for 15 minutes with some olive oil, salt and pepper or I use my asparagus pot. Yes, there is an asparagus pot

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I have always used fresh asparagus. I either boil them or grill them and then add olive oil and balsanic vinegar with some garlic powder, salt and black pepper.

Boil them in water? In a frying pan so they dont break? How do you know when they are cooked? Thanks.

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I use a big pot - like the kind that you would use to make a large pot of gravy with. I just eyeball them and stick a fork in them occasionally until they are tender.
HTH!

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I only like fresh asparagus. Here is what I do:
Squeeze some lemon juice on the tips, salt, pepper and olive oil. Put in oven for a few mins at 400 degrees. Take them out and sprinkle some parmasean cheese on the tips, put back in oven for a few mins for cheese to melt. So yummy!

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I prefer fresh apsapragus, I either
toss with olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic and throw them on the grill until they are tender,
or I do all of the above, and put them in the oven and then the last few minutes under the broiler after sprinkling with parmesean cheese.
once in a while, I will marinate them for like an hour or so in italian dressing before grilling them.

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I use fresh asparagus and stick them on the George Foreman grill until they have grill marks. Top with EVOO and enjoy.

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I'm a fresh asparagus person. I like to put it on a baking sheet with a little Olive oil, salt and a squeeze of lemon and then bake it for 10 min. at 400 degrees.

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I've only used fresh asparagus but I've basically done it three ways --- steam it in the microwave with my microsteamer thing from tupperware, toss with a tiny bit of olive oil, garlic, salt/pepper and spread on a baking sheet and bake in the oven, or just grill it on the bbq!

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I also only use fresh asparagus. I saute it with some olive oil and I season them until they are really tender. I also like to boil them let them cool and then make a salad out of it with just some salt/pepper olive oil and vingear. Sometimes I make it for breakfest. I saute it until tender then I put in a few eggs and make it like scrambled eggs. That is yummy. My mother makes an asparagus soup that is so good.

Re: Asparagus Recipes
I bake in toaster oven at 400 with olive oil and garlic, then when they are done (about 20 minutes) I take them out, sprinkle a little bit of balsamic on and serve hot. LOVE them this way.

I don't have an asparagus steamer either so when I want/need to steam asparagus, I lie them down in a jelly roll pan (cookie sheep with a lip) with a little water (jsut covering the bottom). Then I bake on like 350-375 until tender.

To steam veges without a steamer, if you have a metal collander, you can use that or a few cans with a pie tin with lots of holes. But a little water in the bottom of a big pot, use some cans to rest the pie tin on. Put your veges or fish on the tin and away you go.
----------------------------------------------------
A tip for the non-tips: When you trim your asparagus, keep the bottom ends that are too tough to eat in a freezer bag. Then when you have enough, you can make soup out of them.
