At 4 to 8 weeks old, how long did you go between feedings (breastfeeding)?

My Peds still say to do every 2 to 2.5 hours during the day (can be 3 every now and then if we are in the middle of something) and to let her sleep at night, which I have been doing.

Our baby nurse said once they get to a certain weight, every 3 hours works a bit better just for baby's schedule and they are less sleepy during feedings, etc.

I can't figure out which Sasha prefers-- I like to do the 2 hours during the day, so she can sleep better at night-- but I am constantly waking her up and she nurses and conks right back out.

What did everyone else do?

I wasn't a big fan of waking DS up - night, day, it didn't matter, i would let him sleep. ONly once, when he was sleeping for 4 hours did I wake him up. That being said, 3 hours worked best for DS. It was also easier for me. DS also fed 15 minutes on each side. So it was about 30 to 35 minutes BFing. If it was every 2 hours, which you time from the beginning of the feeding, I felt like I would be constantly BFing.

I never woke DD to feed her. Until she hit 8 months she was eating every 2 hours. After that I got her on an every 3 hour schedule.

even as a newborn i never woke DS to feed him. i always fed on demand, and i still do. there were times when i was feeding him once an hour, and times where he could go 4-5 hours at night without eating.

she will let you know if she is hungry. Chat Icon

At first our baby nurse told us every 2 hours during the day to help her sleep at night especially since we were having sleep issues with Samantha. In the past few days I am feeding on demand, and is going about 3 - 3.5 hours between feedings. My last feeding is at night around 10-10:30 and the baby nurse feeds her (formula) at around 2:30. She will then sleep until 6ish when I will feed her.

After a month, I never woke for feedings unless she went longer than 3 hours.

I fed on demand at that point which varied from 2.5 to 4 hours depending on whether or not I had supplemented with formula after nursing.

mine never slept at night and nursed all day long.

I think its great your baby is on some kind of a schedule...I would be scared to play around with it.

I fed on demand, but my DD nursed pretty much every 2 hours for the first few months. I never woke her to nurse if she was sleeping.

I always feed on demand. DS is now going about 4 hours in between feedings, but at that age, he typically ate every 3 hours. During the growth spurts, he ate every 2 hours or so.

I always nursed on demand durning the day and it was usually 2-3 hours. At night I never woke her. At that age, she would go down between 9 & 10 and then get up at 1 and then 4 and then 7am.

I also fed her anywhere I was so I didn't really mind not have a set schedule with her.

Same here. They have always eaten about every 3 hrs, sometimes now they can go 4-5 hrs. I was waking them up in the very beginning and the ped told me i was crazy.
