At a loss.....3 year old fears?? Please Help!

For the last week my DD has been waking up 3-4 times a night screaming. It takes about 10 minutes to calm her down. Half the time we don't even know why she is flipping out.

Last night I put her to bed and 10 minutes later she starts screaming. I run up stairs and the Dora book across the room on her bookshelf is scaring her. Chat Icon So I take it out of her room and she falls back asleep only to wake up 3 more times screaming but wont explain why. Sometimes she wouldn't even let us touch her; she'd kick and scream. It was insane.

Tonight I put her to bed and again 10 minutes later she freaks out. Now it is Green Eggs and Ham. Seriously this happens 2 more times and each time I take a different Dr. Seuss book out of her room. She can't even see the covers and when I ask her to point them out to me she wouldn't go near her bookshelf....

I don't know what to do? Do I take the entire bookshelf out of her room? It has about 50 books on it so it isn't something easily moved. Why is she suddenly do scared of random books?

We have to do something because nobody is getting any sleep in our house.

Any suggestions?

After the inital screaming about the book, does she fall asleep? Do you think she is waking from her sleep? Also, when you go in there, does it seem she is still sleeping when she is fighting you? It could be night terrors which happen usually within the first few hours of sleep.

DD has been having nightmares for the last year or so....they have been getting way way worse lately.
she woke up about 5-6 times the other night just bawling....it took me like 15-20min to calm her down the first one...i asked her if she was having bad dreams and she said yes and i said about what and she said her eyes getting stuck shut????

i have no clue how to deal with it, sure does make you tired though.

hope there are some answers posted!

Sometimes it happens before she falls asleep like tonight. I know she wasn't asleep before she freaked over the Dr. Seuss books. However most of the time it is in the middle of the night. I think she is sleeping when she is fighting us. The fits in the middle of the night are the ones where we cannot get her to calm down. She doesn't seem to comprehend anything we say and it just has to run its course.

Is there anything I can do to prevent these? Do you think I should call her ped? It is so sad yet frustrating at the same time.

DS is 2.5 but going through the same thing. he wakes up yelling out No No NO and crying. it's upsetting to me bc he is too young to tell me what is wrong Chat Icon but at the same time, we wonder if he just wants to get us in there! so we just go in and comfort him. this has been happening since a couple months ago. we try to hold off going in, sometimes he gets himself back to sleep and other times we have to go in.

Sometimes she talks also and yells things like No. Usually though it will escalate into full blown screaming and it is loud enough that she will wake up DS across the hall. I don't think she is doing it to get us in there because it seems that when we go in there it doesn't seem to comfort her.
