At what age did you let dc sleep on their belly?
Often in the middle of the night dd wakes crying b/c she is stuck on her stomach. Yet every night she will roll on to her belly to try to sleep and i continually put her back on her side. At our last appointment the doc told us to be sure she still sleeps on her back. She's 4 1/2 months, at this point do I still need to keep her off the belly?

as soon as she learned to roll over (3 months), there is not much you can do after that...she always sleeps on her belly now

No clue? She can easily roll belly to back, but not quite as well the oppisite. Its such a pain when she wakes us to roll her over!

Because of the SIDS risk. It's recommended that all babies sleep on their backs. That's why a doc. would say that. I think a doc that recommended an infant to sleep on their belly (unless the baby has a serious medical issue) would be setting themselves up for a liability suit if something happened.

Re: At what age did you let dc sleep on their belly?
this has just happened with my ds to the point that i havent slept so unsoundly since he was newborn i did purchse a video monitor which i really recommend he does seem to sleep better on his tummy though i was told that once they are old enough to roll on their tummy the risk of sids is a much lower risk

Re: At what age did you let dc sleep on their belly?
They really push the back to sleep thing b/c it seems to have helped lower SIDS...but since they don't even know what causes SIDS, some out there are beginning to lose faith in the campaign. Plus, many babies are developing flat heads from it.
That said, Stephanief is right, once they can roll over, there is little you can do to stop it.
I actually have DS napping on his tummy (has been for a couple weeks) as he has torticollis (he leans his head heavily to the right) and the dr. approved of my idea b/c I am able to encourage him facing left this way. He's almost 10 weeks. He can also roll over so he's often NOT where I left him at bedtime.

Re: At what age did you let dc sleep on their belly?
The risk of sids is there till 6 months. I will avoid it till then.
like I have said before, many babies are more comfortable on their bellies, I get that but I would rather do all I can to make sure my baby is alive to enjoy their bellies then take an uneccesary chances for my own conveinence....
