At what age do you worry about talking? or lack of words?
DD is 1 and still only says dada. She makes other sounds like "uh-oh" but no real words. Once in a blue moon I'll get a "mom mom" and a "nana" but that is really rare.
I'm NOT worried yet, but at what point/age should I expect her to start saying more. I hear other children in her daycare class saying so much more.

It really varies, and by so much with babies.
My kid just started talking last month (18 months), she's been saying one new word each week it seems.

definitely not to worry until at least 15 months. But it seems that your DD has enough words for a 15 m old now.
at 18 months I would be looking for at least 6-10 words. Then by 2 years they should have the word explosion.

My friends son that I watch just had his word "explosion" at around 15 months...before that he only said ma-ma and ba-ba. Now he says da-da, bear, and will repeat any words you tell him to say. I think DD has a few more months before you need to worry.

Re: At what age do you worry about talking? or lack of words?
My son says nothing except "da da" which refers to DH, and dogs (go figure). I asked my doctor about it and he said not to expect much until 18 months and not to worry. I was worried because my friends' kids said a lot more words by 1 years old, however what makes me feel a little better is that most of the kids in his day care class don't say much more than my son. So, I guess it varies and don't worry yet!

DD is 18 mths and she seems to be a bit slower coming out with new words than other DC her age...she says about 5 or 6 words on a daily basis but has said a total of about 15.... I am going to talk to the dr on Wed at her 18 mth check about it..

i'm a speech therapist... usually by about 18 months you'll start to see the word "explosion"- where kids start using more new words and repeating more words they hear. the first step to immitating words is immitating sounds, so if your daughter is immitating things like " uh oh" or animal sounds, or even sounds like " beep beep" thats a good start.

Re: At what age do you worry about talking? or lack of words?
Jodi, Luca doesn't have many words either and he's almost 14 months, but I'm not really worried. He has doen all physical milestones on the early side, so I guess I already figured he'd be a late talker. He does say mama, dada consistently and he's constantly making noise and now immitating sounds. The kids refuses to say "hi" but somehow he's capable of saying "guitar." Like I said though, I'm really not worried because I can easily see that he's headed down the road of talking. He's extremely verbal and can easily "tell" me whatever he wants.
