Same here...dada was first...I also hear toto, tata, baba, and other sounds that are just too hard to write out lol...whatever word it is, as long as their babling, its great! I'm longing for that mama though!

Re: At What Mt do you expect to hear

Lucas started "dada" at around 6 months and for a while just babbled - then when he would cry he would say "mama" Chat Icon

Now at 12.5 months he is starting to relate the words...he knows DH is dada and that I am mama and he'll point or look towards us if we ask "where's ...." But for everything else it's babble. He'll point to a light and just babble but no longer call it dada or mama.

Of course! All kids are different T and do things at their own pace...give her time and just always try to talk to her a lot! I never shut up when I'm with my son...people on the street must think I'm nuts!

Re: At What Mt do you expect to hear

At exactly 6 mos I was worried about DS too. He started saying "hi" and ayyyyy around 3 months but those were the only variations he was saying still at 6 mos. At 6.5 mos he started babbling like crazy one day out of the blue - first da-da, then ba-ba, then dadd -yyyy and all sorts of gibberish Chat Icon At 8 mos he said ma-ma and it appeared he used it correctly. At 9mos it is unmistakeable that he knows who ma ma is and uses the word only for me Chat Icon

At any rate - at his 6mos ped visit since he wasn't saying anything yet I asked the ped and he said no worries until 9mos and only at that point if they are not babbling at all.

So, it is wayyyyy too sooon to worry!Chat Icon

Re: At What Mt do you expect to hear

DS says Dada a lot. but obviously has no clue he is saying it. To him its just another sound.
I am not worried, he "talks" a lot just lots of sounds, every week or so he will discover a new sound and that will be all we hear. Right now its a very high pitched screeching (yeah - that's a pleasant sound!) he makes if when happy, and then when upset its just a different tone.
He also will mimic sounds so if I go ahh, he will try to do the same and then we just do ah, ah, ah back and forth. He is learning to communicate even if no one knows what he is saying!

As long as she is verbalizing anything, grunting, humming, screeching, its fine. She is learning to use her voice and will discover words when she is ready.

Re: At What Mt do you expect to hear

DS is almost 7 months. He babbes endlessly and it seems like he wants to talk in the worst way, but no words yet.
