At what point did you see a infertility doctor?

Did your ob-gyn refer you to a sepcialist? Did you decide to go on your own? What tests did your ob-gyn do before moving on to a specialist?

Re: At what point did you see a infertility doctor?

Technically if you are under 35 and haven't conceived within a year of TTC than the rule of thumb is to move on to a specialist. If you are over 35 you should allow yourself 6 months TTC then move on to a specialist. Every GYN is different...the basic tests that can be performed are bloodwork on CD3 that checks your hormone levels to make sure everything is where it should be. I believe any GYN can have this test administered. There are also the HSG exams to make sure your tubes are clear. Some GYNs do them some don't. Don't forget to check your DH or SO sperm to make sure that's OK. Good Luck!

Re: At what point did you see a infertility doctor?

After 8 months of TTC with charting and OPKS each month...and normal cycles.

I was 31.

She sent me for routine labs like progesterone and hormone tests and asked us to come back in 6-8 months if NOT pg.

I waited 2 more months and read a lot that said that charting and TTC with regular cycles, ( and I have previously gotten PG 2x before on my first try) that I should have conceived already...so I went to an RE on my own.

I am 36 and after 7 months of TTC, DH and I are doing AIH in his office - our first try will be on Monday. He told me that after three cycles of this, he would recommend a more invasive procedure that involving fertility specialists.

Re: At what point did you see a infertility doctor?

After more then a year of trying and a m/c.

I did charting for a few months and then went to a fertility awareness specialist who told me to @ least start witht he testing.

I confided in someone here who told me to try to start with chart day 3 bloodwork.

I am glad I did, because I have some issues that were addresssed. ( and still are)

go with your gut, seeing a specialist will help rule things out - if things are found being proactive really helps.

Good luck

I just wanted to send Chat Icon Chat Icon I am not too familar with your situation, but it sounds like your MD isn't being responsive to you. If I were you, I think I'd be ready to see someone else. Chat Icon

Re: At what point did you see a infertility doctor?

You know, I've found that virtually all the doctor and the one nurse practitioner I've been to are not the least bit interested in my charts. In fact, the only health professional I go to who shows interest is my acupuncturist.

I found that very frustrating, esp when to my eyes, my charts were showing a problem in my luteal phase.

Even though the dr I'm currently seeing isn't interested in my charts, he does listen to my concerns and answer my questions. My rec would be that you find a dr with whom you feel comfortable with because IF is frustrating enough without dealing with insensitve medical practitioners!
