I'm wondering about this too. My next appt (at 28 weeks) starts the every two week schedule, I forgot to ask if they means they will be internal again.

Mine told me around 24 weeks they will start checking by u/s. I am having twins though.
I actually had an internal this week and an u/s because I was having some cramping.

I think if nothing was noted of concern in your level II and ultrascreen they only start checking when you start getting internals....at least thats what my doc does...

As long as they don't have a reason to check earlier (if you are experiencing contractions) then my office starts at 36 weeks I believe.

I'm 36 weeks and have not had an internal yet.
My Dr. told me that since everything is going great that there's no reason for him to check. I go back in two weeks and he said he'll do one than.

only at 39 weeks! so, I guess it depends upon the OB.
I understand the rationale, though. It's a bit painful, and the cervix can change so quickly that you could be all sealed up one day and in labor the next.
I guess my OB finally checks at 39 weeks to see if they should schedule an induction or not

I am having twins and they started checking me at 17 weeks. However I am in SC at a high risk clinic that is part of a teaching hospital-it seems I am getting pretty different care from others on here....so I wouldn't necessarily judge on my experience. If you have had cervical procedures in the past you may want to ask them about it.
