If dd had a fever over 100.4 or had some type of rash. I wouldn't bring her in for a common cold or cough unless it was really, really bad.

When it's turning into a secondary infection - a fever or if it's hit the lungs.

keep in mind a runny nose and cough could be teething, so she may of had a cold for 1 week and now it is just by chance teething. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hey Deb,

I brought Gavin in for a cold two times when it lasted more then a week and a half and he had an ear infection both times. He had no symptoms of an ear infection, no fever, no crankyness just a slight cough and runny nose..The doc said a cold should last 4-7 days...I would bring her in just to be on the safe side :)

Only if the cough is in their chest (or sounds extremely phlemy), looks like their throat hurts (strep test) or they run a 102 fever.

I just brought DS in for his first "sick visit"

He had a cold for about 2 weeks and at some pt last week, I said I should bring him in

I wish I would have done it earlier...because now it progessed to an ear infection

It cant hurt to bring her in

I'm in the same boat as you Deb. I've been figuring since Victoria hasn't had a fever that the doc would just tell me to keep the humidifier on. After reading some of the responses for ear infections with no symptoms I think I'm going to call myself.

DS has a cold. The ped told us to monitor for

- Fever
- Not eating
- Not himself
- wheezing sound or any sound coming from the chest.

NOT to worry about running stuff being clear or green. That means nothing.

Milan has a cold too but he got it after his shots on Monday. He has gotten better and he is only a little stuffy at night. For a couple of days he didnt eat well with the bottle but now he is back to normal.

ETA: He is also teething so that might have something to do with it.

Re: At what point in a cold do you bring DC to doc?

well, let me just start off by saying that I am usually over cautious and tend to bring DD in only to hear "its just a cold, shes fine" but normally, if it lasts more than a week, she has a cough or fever or just seems really miserable. It cant hurt to take them in just to make sure if its been 2 weeks already.
