When they started to stand & pull up on the side of the crib. The worry is that their head weighs more than the rest of their body. If they can reach their head over, you need to lower the mattress.

I just lowered mine the whole way rather than go with the 3 different levels.

When they could sit up we did it, but my boys didn't sit up until 7 months.

Barbara - the head thing, does that count for when they are over a year too? I wonder if I need to lower it again, the side comes up to their armpits.

I would lower it. It's also the reason you keep your bathroom door closed & the lid down. Even when they're walking, their head still outweighs their body.

Sitting up on their own? Or when they can sit up regardless?

DD can't bring herself into the sitting position yet, but can sit very well unassisted for long time.

Should I drop it?
