we actually do not stay on the strip. we stay 5 mins driving on black horse pike- it is closest to the trop and we stay at the ramada limited.
we are going sept 30- as an example and we are paying 89 dollars for a sat night!!!

This is what we do, too. Except we stay at the Comfort Inn West and it is also only $89. Why give the hotel my gamblin' money

We usually stay off the strip at Harrah's or the Borgota.

Love love love the Tropicana!! They re-did it and its beautiful and has lots of shops, and spa, and awesome restaurants! def go there you wont be disappointed

I always stay at the Sheraton. It's right off the strip, but walking distance. It's not as expensive as staying on the strip, and much cleaner than most other hotels.
It's right near all the shopping, so during the day, we usually walk to the outlets, and then at night, either walk, or take a 2 min cab ride to the casinos.
It's a perfect location.
ETA: IMO, Borgata, or Harrahs, or anything else that's on the Marina side is NOT convienent. Too far away from the boardwalk. Also, Borgata is ridiculously priced (very nice), but just too much $$.

We have stayed at the Sheraton a few times -- it's a really nice hotel! I have gotten great rates on Orbitz in the past -- even on holiday weekends.
We stayed at the Black Horse Pike hotels also -- the Best Western is a mini-suite hotel. VERY nice!
Personally, I'd rather go off the strip to BHPike then stay at a smaller place along the Boardwalk. We ended up in a really nasty comfort inn type place that just turned us off from those options.
Oh, also try Atlantic Palace Suites close to Ripley's - it's a suite hotel also but can have reasonable rates as well.

We usually stay in Balleys or Harrahs...we like to be on the boardwalk, so we can just walk to the beach
