Aug/Sept/Oct 05' mommies

Lets talk about the bottle. Have you made the switch yet. I need some help on how to go about doing this. Right now she gets 3 bottles a day...1 in the morning, 1 with dinner and 1 before bed. Do I try giving her the milk in a cup just for the first 2 and then still a bottle before bed? Or do I completely take the bottle away all together? Thanks

I'd take away the least comfort times. Then go from there.Chat Icon

Is she familiar with the cup? Do you give her juice/water in it? We did that with Bella since she turned 1, because people made me feel liek she should be off the bottle THEN! My ped assured me that we didn't even need to really try pushing it until at least 15 months at her year appointment, so I just kept giving her water in in once a day.

Then about two weeks ago, she just seemed ready...I was gonna slowly phase it out one bottle a day, but she was fine. We do still give her a small bottle in the AM when she wakes up, but I think we feel better with that and will eliminate that soon. I think every child is different, Bella was NOT ready back in September and refused to drink milk out of the cup...now she just is.

I have learned that they really are ready in their own time....so I try not to stress it. Next is the binkyChat Icon Chat Icon

We're in the same situation... we've been giving Alex water in her sippy since she was a year old, but she flat out refuses to take milk in her sippy. So basically she carries her sippy cup all day and has water, but still gets one bottle of milk in the AM and one bottle in the PM... I'm not stressing about weaning her just yet, I'm hoping she'll just get to it in her own time. We also started weaning Alex from the binky - only at bedtime, but man oh man is that girl stubborn. She signs for her paci literally every 5 minutes when she's at home, so I think it's time we start a full-out wean... though I'm dreading it!

I have been told there will be days that they barely drink anything, BUT that if they really want it they will drink it. If they know that eventually you will put it in a bottle, it's almost like why not wait.

Good Luck, this is hard stuff. Dh is NO help either, doesn't understand that giving her a bottle during the day when we are out sets bad precedent, even if it IS easier...

Thanks girls....can you tell me which sippy you are using. Ava has all different kinds that she drinks water and juice from. Is anyone of them fine?
The binky will be next for us too. Right now she only get it for naps and for bed. She does ask for it all day though. I swear she has a hidden stash of them because she always seems to find one.

Yeah I knew it was not a good idea to give them the bottle, but I am so worried about my little guys weight and getting enough calories that I caved.

And DH didn't give them the res tof thier bottles that day in the sippy since the bottles were all ready made? Not sure what sense that made, but men will be men.

I was using a nuby and the advent for water, but they never took all that much.

Yesterday they did well with the disposable ones, but when they shake them or drop them they leak.

I have the sports Nuby and the one with the straw...I think she likes the straw better...maybe I'll try that one.
