Re: Augusten Burroughs fans
Do you ladies like him? I have had "Running with Scissors" forever but have never gotten around to it. Is it worthwhile?

Re: Augusten Burroughs fans
I really liked running with scissors, I was shocked by a lot of what I read, but fascinated as well. I also read Dry, which was sort of a follow up to it, but was more about him and his recovery process. The first book was about his upbringing by his crazy mom and her therapist, who inserted himself into Augusten's life.
there was a claim by the family he wrote about that he made up a lot of it (this was before the whole A Million Little Pieces fiasco) but I don't remember hearing more about it after the initial news bit

Re: Augusten Burroughs fans
I like his writing a lot.
Running with Scissors was funny but disturbing. I went to his last reading (before the family thing came out). He basically said it's not autobiographical, but more nippets from his life.
I thought Dry was really good. Very funny.

Re: Augusten Burroughs fans
I didn't go. My friend went. She said he picked one of the more graphic chapters in the book, which was still funny.
I'm done reading it as of this am. I liked it but like his Magical THinking, it's not a story. It's snippets from his life. If you want the book, FM me & I can mail it to you. The only thing I ask is that you pass it on to someone else when you're done or donate it to a library.
I think I liked Dry the best.
