Does anyone suffer from an autoimmune like fibromyalgia, Lupus etc that causes pain, muscle fatigue etc.
If so I wanted to see what you were doing to stay fit and healthy.

Re: Autoimmune illness-Diet and Exercise
I have crohns. I used to be so fatigued there were days I couldn't get out of bed.
I get regular b12 shots and I'm on Humira.
My energy level has risen substantially.
As the result I am more active, I eat more healthfully and I an the healthiest I have been in 20 years.
It's a catch 22. The meds keep me healthy from my illness but my lifestyle and activities make me healthier.

Re: Autoimmune illness-Diet and Exercise
My mom has Lupus. Unfortunately it is quite severe so cardio is pretty much out of the picture. She does pilates three times a week to keep toned and strong.

Thanks for the info ladies.
Im diagnosed Lupus who also tested positive for Fibromyalgia so basically I've been flaring ongoing. Cardio I tried and II'm literally in the fetal position the next day. So maybe I'll try pilates.

My mom works with a trainer who has experience with pain management and understands her limits. Maybe try to find someone with that kind of experience? Or if you go to a class make SURE to tell the instructor ahead of time, and don't do anything that could exacerbate an inflamed area (when my mom's flare ups are in her legs she does strictly upper body work). I also would suggest speaking to your doctor ahead of time to make sure you are approved for any type of exercise. My mom is in constant pain and has terrible flare ups but she has found pilates very helpful when she can manage it.

Have you tried swimming? It is recommended for people with fibromyalgia. Most rheumatologists encourage exercise-Start slowly 10 or 15 minutes at a time a few times a week. Have you tried taking fish oil? There are several studies that show fish oil is beneficial for patients with lupus. It helps reduce inflammation.
Also how were you diagnosed? Fibromyalgia is usually diagnosed by physical exam and exclusion of other autoimmune diseases. Lupus will cause joint pain and tenderness that can mimic fibromyalgia.
Have you been tested for hypothyroid? I was originally diagnosed with fibromyalgia and 12 years later I was diagnosed with hashimoto's thyroiditis since being on synthroid my joint pain and fibromyalgia symptoms have disappeared. I was tested for hypothyroid many times before I finally tested positive.

I was diagnosed Nov 2010 for Lupus and see a Rheumatologist monthly. We have been trying different med combinations. However we noticed that my symptoms were not relenting and at times debilatating. He kept track of my symptoms for a few months and sent me for bloodtests to rule out other issues. We discovered I had APS(a clotting disorder) but he wasnt convinced that was the reason even paired with Lupus. But the turning point came when one day I saw him and I was in so much pain all over, like you could see the muscles above my shoulder blades literally swollen/inflamed like a bodybuilder plus a massive spike in weight gain and bloat, this coupled with other "signs" . I have always been light sensitive and thought nothing of it so btw monthly visits , examinations and conversation Fibromyalgia was introduced as a diagnosis. Its taken years to get here.
P.S we did test for throidism and I came back negative for Hyper and Hypo.
