Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
Do you have them for your babies? I am thinking of getting one but one of my mom friends says she will never get one because of the safety issue if it were to get loose somehow & hit the baby in the face/head. I am actually more afraid of having a mirror & want to constantly look at him in the mirror instead of focusing on driving.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
I always wanted one, but never got around to getting one. DS is now almsot 4 months old and doing fine without it. he does have this little toy thing that hangs from his carrier that has a small mirror on it...so if I really want to take a look at him, I jsut angle that mirror while I'm at a red light or something...

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
I believe that it is dangerous that in an accident it could become a projectile. However, I have one in my car. I love being able to see DS's face. He also can see mine and that calms him down sometimes. There are times that I have to consciously tell myself to stop looking at him and keep my eyes on the road. Come to think of it, it's probably not the safest thing

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
we have one even though it's a no no. em's choked before & I will NOT be okay with it happening if i'm not in the back with her. i've tilted my rear-view to show me her mirror AND my entire back window.
we have one that velcro's around the seat AND has a strap - so that thing isn't coming off unless the seat rest does.
we have the fisher price precious planet deluxe auto mirror

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
Mirrors, unless for medical necissity, should not be used. They become projectiles in cars as well as they can hit the baby in a crash.
Rear facing seats are designed to bounce in case of a crash The mirrors dilodge and can struke the baby as he or she comes up.
Also the best way to keep your child safe in the car is to watch the road. There has been an increas in the number of crashes due to distracted driving.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
I have heard that they can become projectiles, but ours has a strap that goes around the headrest(vertically) and clips in the back, so the entire headrest would have to come off and I don't see that happening.
I can see how they could become a distraction, but it makes me more comfortable to be able to glance in my rear view mirror and see him.

Actually your mirror can also break off. You would be surprised at how quickly the clip breaks.
I do understabd the reason for using them, all I can do is inform on what we refer to as "BEST PRACTICE." What I post is the official recommendation of all safety organizations with regard to mirrors.

I never used one and it hasn't been an issue at all. I think the distraction is a much bigger problem then not being able to see the baby.

I know they are suppsed to be "bad" but honestly I love mine, and use them....and for the naysayers (its only my experience, but...) when I rolled my car over and totalled it back when dd #1 was a baby, the mirror never even budged....ours is on the side hearest and dd's car seat was in the middle!

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
Ours ties (not velcro) and I really don't see how a good knot would come out in a crash or the strings would rip off. It just doesn't seem possible to me.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
is it really a mirror in those things (headrest strap ones)? it's so light that I thought it was a synthetic type mirror. I used it when my kids were babies

Also keep in mind, that pocketbooks, toys, drinks in the cup holders, etc, are all projectiles in an accident. Anything not literally bolted down (and even things bolted down, if you seem some crash test footage), is a projectile.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
Yes. We love ours. Liam has figured out we can see him and does peek a boo. THe car seat guy told us they could come loose and be a projectile in an accident. But, honestly, I think that is a bit far fetched. It has a long strap that has a bendy metal in it to keep it in place.. then it goes through a d-ring and then it gets velcroed. And again the bendy metal goes around the seat head. I can't even envision what would have to happen to make this thing come loose.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
I didn't have one at first but, I felt I needed one. DS and I make trips from our home to LI frequently (an hour and a half) so I wanted to be able to see him).
On top of that - he loves it - it entertains him as well.

Re: Automobile Mirrors for baby.. yes or no?
We used one until my DD was turned forward facing. It was anchored to the head rest pretty securely. I wanted to be able to see her while I was driving just in case.
